I've had my dwa-160 (A2) for several months and it's worked fine at my office.  Now, I have moved it and the computer it has always been connected to to my house.  I connect to my wireless signal (no security, no password, Apple 802.11n Airport Extreme Wireless Router).  The connection will last long enough to load a single web page, but that's all.  The moment I click on a link from the loaded page, the internet has stopped working.

The strange thing is I am still showing 60% wireless signal, and my PC is still showing that I am connected to the internet.

There are two signals available: 1. 2.4ghz which is on channel 3, and 2. 5ghz which is on channel 149.  Both signals cut out the same way.

Every other wireless device in the house is working just fine off of the apple router.  Here's what I have done to troubleshoot so far:
- restarted the computer, restarted the modem, restarted the router, restarted the dwa-160
- turned off all windows firewalls
- used windows network diagnostics (no solution found, except it will occasionally say that "the default gateway is not available" but when I run the diagnostics, it claims to have "fixed" this problem)

That's it.  I'm not super literate in this kind of stuff, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy

  • What wireless modes are you using on the main host router?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N or AC on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.

Un-install the current driver then reinstall it using the latest from D-Links web site.

What is the distance between the main host router and the adapter?
