DHCP Server Leases, letting unused go
« on: October 18, 2015, 04:57:12 PM »

Hi All,

My DFL-260E doesn't seem to release any assigned IP addresses once a device has connected to it (these aren't reserved addresses).
The DHCP IP range I have is 192.168.0.2-.55, up to 192.168.0.40 I have reserved IP addresses assigned to specific MAC addresses, that is all working fine. What I am finding though is devices that have previously connected to the unit (via a WiFi point) are still shown in the mappings list even though they may have connected once several months ago. So 192.168.0.41 to  192.168.0.55 still has some MAC addresses listed next to them.
Is it possible to set the DHCP server up to release an IP address in the non reserved pool if a device has not been connected for say 24 hrs?

Thanks.

Is there any lease time features for the DHCP server that needs to be configure?
Check the user manal for any lease time features if any. This should be something that should tell the server to release the IP address after a period of time if it's not reserved.

Yes I currently have Lease time set to 6hrs, this is under:

lan_DHCPServer » DHCP Servers » DHCP » Network Services » Network

I have not been able to find any other settings to control this.

What FW version is currently loaded?
What region are you located?

Latest Firmware is loaded.
It is not that big of a deal, I've actually just disabled the logging of the DHCP server, I'll see if that makes a difference.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email. I think there maybe more up to date FW however not sure if it applies to your Rev. Ask them first about this and if there is any more recent FW version. I see v2.## version on a different site however you would need to know if it's ok to use this or not. It maybe just a FW update would help the lease issue. If you can live with it then I recommend keeping whats loaded. Find out first.

Let us know if you find out any info.
