Title: new firmware dcs932l_v102_build_3.bin
Post by: acellier on November 19, 2011, 01:53:46 PM
Yesterday when I went to MyDlink (booted in Lion) I got a message that I should download new firmware. The link led me to the file: dcs932l_v102_build_3.bin
Today, searching around, I don't find a trace of anyone installing this.
The file is the identical size to v101_build_3 (both 4,194,304 bytes) but dated 14 October 2011 vs. 31 May 2011.
Not wanting to be first, I'm asking here ... ...

LOL. . . I got the same message last Wednesday and was waiting for another first adopter to take the plunge.

Examining the 2 files with a hex editor, the content starts out the same but way toward the end the new one is somewhat shorter (fewer fill bytes at the end).
I hope this doesn't spell less features!
Maybe I'll wait to install it until some other brave soul does.

I found some release notes on the D-Link Taiwan website:

Firmware Version: v1.01 build 3
Release Date: 2011-05-31
Hardware Version: A1
Mydlink Version: 2.0.05-201104261737

New Features:
1. Support Mac Bonjour Discover Service – Provide the Bonjour On/Off Setting and Bonjour Name Setting.
2. Support APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) used in Bonjour Discover Service when the camera can’t use DHCP to obtain an IP address.

Problems Resolved:
1. Under wireless is disabled, wireless will be enabled after wireless site survey.
2. Change video resolution may cause system hang if someone is live viewing.
3. Fixed download firmware crash issue – this occur when FTP upload is enabled and have a bad FTP server address setting.
4. Add “GoAhead WebServer logo” logo on the bottom-right of the home page.
5. Add some functions for production test.
6. Change copyright year to 2010-2011.
7. Fixed some web pages wording error.
Fixed the Activate List only displays one user information if you disable [User Access Control] first and there are multiple user accounts to access the camera live video. (DBG10110213)

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger - did it while wireless - still working - looking for any changes.

Just so I'm reading you correctly: The 5/2011 v1.01b03 = = 10/2011 v1.02b03?
Where did you get the release notes for the 10/2011 release?

No, the October v102 is different from the May v101
As I stated above, examining the 2 files with a hex editor, the content starts out the same but way toward the end the new one is somewhat shorter (fewer fill bytes at the end). Of course, I can't read the binary in any sensible way.
I'm guessing that the files have the same total size in order to fill the program memory (EPROM?) space.
What I am running now is definitely a NEW release. I did not find any release notes.

I'll update my camera tomorrow. Do you see any improvements in performance or behavior?
I'll look around a bit more and see if I can find release notes.  ???

I'll update this as I go:

- Java no longer asks for username/password - works better too.
- VLC still reports ~30 audio while connecting to the audio.cgi file.
- Open ports: FTP, Telnet, HTTP, and HTTPS (was this the same as before?)
-- HTTPS presents a self signed cert, but DOES work
