Hi. I have said camera set up by a window, looking out at an angle, it works fine in the day light, at night with the IR led's on I just get a reflection and no picture, so I was thinking of covering the built in led's and installing some kind of IR led's outside, maybe if I can find one to replace the outside light, or one mounted and just plugged in to point the IR led's in the proper direction. Anyone have any luck with this type of setup? Any recommendations? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please see the following FAQ post: Network Camera FAQ > DCS Network Cameras - LEDs Reflect Off My Window at Night and Wash-Out the Image (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47699.0)

Would that be an 850nm or 940nm led Illuminator?

Here's a related thread, although I can't comment on the effectiveness of the wavelengths discussed: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50542.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50542.0)

Why would you cover the built-in leds? ???
Just turn them off.

I bought the 2 models available at tiger direct.
The higher watt one gets up to 135F.. hot! So be careful with location.
Its in an aluminum housing...so it won't melt, but if It's touching something....
The 20watter was a step above on board 5222l lights.
Both were more directed beams than a flood type pattern.

I don't think the DCS-5020L has controls to disable the IR LEDs, just the status LEDs.

Score one then for the DCS-5010L ;) I've disabled mine and running in night mode. Another slight difference!

Well tigerdirect no longer stocks them.

there are 3 models, ir010 - 20 ft, ir030 - 45ft, ir045 - 60ft
Also show up under the name clover.
Weather Resistant - WaveLength 830nM
They do glow red - but not 100% viewable at all angles, if that makes sense.
Comes with power adapter and has a pretty lengthy cord.

Can you provide Web UI navigation path? The Web UI should be almost identical . . . I may have overlooked something. ??? :-\

OKay - I am an idiot ... I assumed a little too much, and thought I was in "night mode" with ir cut...
I even shined my IR light and saw nothing until I was in night mode.
Unscore one for me. My bad.
----------------------
DAY/NIGHT MODE
In this section, you can configure the Day/Night mode switching method. Day/Night mode ensures good video illumination in both day and night environments.
In Day mode, IR illumination is off, IR light is blocked and the video is in color. In Night mode, IR illumination is on, IR light is visible and the video is in black & white.
-
Also of note - the config file generated is a .cfg, and not exactly readable like the 2230 which is in text.

No worries. . . I had a DCS-5010L for a while and didn't recall seeing the option in that model either ;)
I believe the DCS-5222L (or one of the other high end consumer models) has an option to disable the IR illuminator. :-\

You can turn those night LED's off just by switching to day mode on the camera. I use this all the time as I am not concerned about critters moving through in the dark but am interested if any light sources go by.
