dns343 hdd power failure?
« on: October 02, 2013, 03:03:01 AM »

I've a problem with missing one drive in raid1 volume on dns343

I use two ST2000VN000 for raid1.

The problem is - that the drives frequently disappear from volume and raid1 become degraded.

What i can do to rebuild volume is to shutdown and turn on the dns343, when it not works shut down and remove and insert the missing drive and turn on the dns343. Usually it helps and volume rebuild and work some time.

What i found is that one drive is missing often than second.

On the other hand, in the some time there is one drive in volume2 (ST2000DL003) and it works all the time when drives from volume1 becomes missing.

Under Hard Disk Sentinel there is notification for one drive "Problems occured between the communication of the disk and the host 721 times." on the some time the second raid1 drive have no such information in logs.
What is interesting that one drive from the second volume in the log hawe 4374 times but... this drive is not missing from the DNS343 and volume works in the some time when volume1 build on two drives is missing.

I think that the problem can happen from broken drive, broken dns343 or both.
On the volume I've set once per week drives checking - can it cause missing of drive?

What can cause such problems and what can solve this problem?

thanks
m

Did you try running an Extended Test under MAINTENANCE > Disk Diagnostic > S.M.A.R.T. TEST?

As i checked - again on of the 2nd HDD (ST2000VN000-1H3) from RAID1 is unvisible (power off) and raid is obviously degraded.

So I run the extended test for HDD from volumne2 (ST2000DL003-9VT) which works normally holds on 10%.

After I shut down the dns343 and turn on - the 2nd HDD from RAID1 become visible and RAID1 become to sync&rebuild - i predict that it will again be power off within few days

How to check if it is is broken hdd -
or maybe it is incompatible with DNS343?
