For those interested, I have also been trying to use DSL-932L with a Sony Dash and Chumby (infocast 3.5).  I have tried two chumby apps: "dual cam" and "Megapixel PTZ Webcam".  The DSL-932 appears to work with neither.  So...you can put this in the "NOT" list.

I believe the problem is associated with lack of URL available that incorporates username and password with the DSL-932L.  I understand that some DLink cameras can use:

http://username:password@ipaddress:port/mjpeg.cgi (or variations thereof)

Unfortunately, the -932L is not one of them.

Technical support claims there is no such capability for the -932L.  My experience suggests that this claim is not necessarily authoritative, but the time I am willing to spend with this is quickly coming to an end.

Zoneminder
http://www.zoneminder.com/
Linux
Free

Zoneminder is NOT for the faint of heart.  I've been using Zoneminder for several years with a low cost security camera connected through a video capture card to monitor the entrance gate of our property (which cannot be seen from our house).  It's been a rough ride at times - particularly dealing with drivers and settings for the capture card.

It took me about 5 minutes to get Zoneminder and my new DCS-930L up and running together.  And the image quality is far superior to what I get out of the video capture card.

I have been using one that's not on the list:
tinyCam Monitor, Android, http://tinycammonitor.com/
also on Android Market
Free version and Pro ($1.99)

I would think that Net Eye Camera would work whenever IP Cam Viewer does. Net Eye Camera is a repackage of IP Cam Viewer. I have not tried it with the DLink, maybe someone else will.

I tried tinycam and it did NOT work for me.

UPDATE: After many repeated attempts, I was able to get my DCS-930L to work with tinycam.  Apparently, I must check an IP address at least 12 times before I notice errors.

Thanks for pointing out the oversight, and thanks for your support. I will reverse the links now.
BTW there is now (finally) audio support on the Android smartphone app.

I've been using the dlink software to record and my cam disconnects in the middle of the night and I can miss everything.

A few updates/corrections:

IP Cam Viewer is technically called IP Cam Viewer Pro. It has a version for the iPhone as well as the iPad, and it currently sells for $3.99, not $2.99.

Updated...

I have also found an iPhone app called iCamViewer. It is available for free at the App Store, and distributed by CCTV Camera Pros in partnership with AppBurst: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Camera-iPhone-App-s/362.htm

Blue Iris works with most DCS-xxx cameras.  I'm using the demo version currently with 4 DCS-932L cameras.  IMO way better than Ispy, but it does cost $49.95 for multiple cameras.  Very easy to set-up,  everything is customizable.  Supports Windows XP, Server 2003, Windows Home Server 2011 (I'm Using), Windows 7.

DCS-932L works with IP Cam Viewer on iPad.

I can confirm that this software works and supports audio also.

I have had no end of issues with myDlink and this software has not given me any issues in comparison.

If you are having problems connecting your camera (or multiple cameras) this software could be a good replacement.

Thank you for the feedback. From reading these boards, many DCS-930L and DCS-932L owners (myself included) had difficulty finding a third party product that captured the audio stream. Good to know that a product exists that can do just that.  ;)

I'm assembling a current list of available D-Link DCS compatible software products for monitoring video/audio feeds from D-Link DCS cameras. For the benefit of our user community please limit contributions to products you've personally tested.  Please post your contributions as a reply to this thread and I'll add them to this master list.

Please include the following minimal information in your reply: product name, website, supported platform(s), cost, and a brief product review/overview.

Below is a summary of everyone's input thus far. Please let me know if any information on this list is incorrect or requires updating.

DCS IP Cameras - Compatible Third Party Applications to Monitor Video

Disclaimer: Non D-Link applications described in this post are not sanctioned by D-Link for monitoring video/audio streams with D-Link hardware. All reports describing the success and/or security of these software products for monitoring video/audio streams are solely the result of end-user experience and observation. As such, DCS IP Camera owners who choose to use these products for video/audio streaming do so at their own risk.

This app for OSX (Mac) computers, NVRViewer, works well with my DCS-930L cameras:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nvr-viewer/id412795760
It's free to view streams from multiple cameras and record from one camera.  Recording from multiple cameras is a $9.99 upgrade.  It has it's own motion detection options which I haven't tried. Also, audio is not supported.

We would like to introduce our new "over the internet" recording service that has been tested with the DCS-930L and DCS-932L network cameras known as RavenShoeSecurity.com. We think we would be a good candidate for your list and would be happy to send you a coupon if you would like to try it out.

Our service receives and catalogs motion activated snapshot images from network camera(s) over the Internet via ftp and provides secure access through any web browser (PC, Mac, or Smart Phone). Retrieved images are assembled into a video clip on the fly for easy viewing. All images are cataloged by day and hour.

Service Plans start at $4.95 per month for a quota of 10,000 images with unlimited cameras and unlimited sharing. When the quota is reached the system automatically re-cycles the storage space by removing the oldest images to make room for the new ones. You'll always have the last 10,000 pictures received from your network camera(s) safely stored in our cloud computing facility no matter what may happen to your camera(s).

Visit http://www.RavenShoeSecurity.com (http://www.RavenShoeSecurity.com) for more information.

Aside from viewing of archived images, does your product/service offer live video stream viewing and/or capture?

The RavenShoeSecurity.com service does not offer live viewing of the video stream or capturing of the video stream. However we do capture the snapshot stream. Live viewing of the video stream can be nicely handled by MyDlink.com. The RavenShoeSecurity.com and MyDLink.com services can be used at the same time without issue.

The RavenShoeSecurity.com system records the last 10,000 JPEG snapshots received from the camera over the Internet. There is no DVR, dedicated PC, camera management software, or other "on-site" appliance. Just a network camera, power, and Internet (WiFi or Ethernet).

If a DCS-930L or DCS-932L (our favourite) is setup as per our recommendations the system typically receives 1 to 3 snapshots per second when there is high activity. When viewed online, these images are assembled back into a video, which gives a clear depiction of what is going on. Snapshots are transmitted over the Internet fast - so viewing the latest images gives the latest information - within a few seconds. Snapshots are also low bandwidth - so retrieval over a lower bandwidth connection works well.

There also are some nifty playback features that will compress an entire day or an entire hour into a clip that lasts 20 seconds. This lets a person do a Quick View of a period of time to check for images of interest.

For recording we recommend the DLink DCS-942L with a micro SD. Set the motion detection to trigger a) sending snapshots to our service and b) recording video clips to the on-board micro SD at the same time. If you see images of interest on RavenShoeSecurity.com then you can use MyDlink.com to retrieve the video clip (with sound). The time stamp on the snapshot will line up with the time stamp on the video clip making cross referencing snapshots and video clips easy. Essentially our service becomes a snapshot index of the video clips that are physically stored in the camera on an SD.

One feature we do have that seems quite unique is unlimited camera sharing on a person by person basis. Enter another person's email address into the box provided on your RavenShoeSecurity.com home page and that person is invited to view the images from your cam. You can delete and black-out camera shares on a individual by individual basis.

And you can have as many cameras as you like as long as they all have unique names. And your cameras can be anywhere in the world where there is Internet service.

QuickTime Player on a Mac (OSX 10.6.8) will monitor video and audio from an DCS-1130. It decodes both the MJPEG and MPEG streams.

Safari works on my iPhone (iOS 5.0.1) and iPad (iOS 5.1). Video only, no audio. Only handles MJPEG.

Needless to say, these are both single camera solutions. No multiple windows, no motion detection.
Mydlink is not involved.

I wish I could find a way to obtain snapshots (JPEGs) from the 1130. Then I could use the excellent PhotoStickies application (Mac) to capture time-lapse series.

I have six D-Link cameras for security use.  I view through D-Link's CamViewer and IE 8.  I would prefer to use Unix based software such as Linux Ubuntu.  The D-Link cameras are unusual, needing IE and ActiveX to view so the task is daunting.

Is anyone out there able to view from Firefox or Google Chrome. for example?

Please see updated application list!

I've used an app called 'D-Link Cams' by EyeSpyFX for probably 2 years on the iPhone and it
works with most D-Link cameras.. personally used it with the following-
DCS-7110, DCS-6610, DCS-5610, DCS-3110, DCS-3410, DCS-2230, DCS-2210, DCS-920
and DCS-3430.. I'm sure they support the rest of them..

Platforms - iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry.
Cost I think is $4.99

Their website - http://www.eyespyfx.com/mywebcam.php
It's a basic app but not bad.. you can control a PTZ with it as well.

IP Cam View for Windows Phone 7 or higher, free to try, $1.99 to buy. Available from the WP market page at: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/ip-cam-viewer/e764b794-60e8-df11-9264-00237de2db9e. Just video, no audio. Includes several public webcams as well.  It took me a while to get it to work on 3G but it was not the fault of the app, it was my fault for changing the default IP address of the DCS-932L. However the manual from D-Link could have included a warning on this topic. I think a company of the size of D-Link should have an app for Windows Phones.

Great List of apps....

Would have been great if you could have mentioned in front of all apps what can they record

VIDEO and/or AUDIO

Dlink should thank you for doing them a favor as their pathetic DView can record but cant play in any other app, you have to install the DVIEW app on all the locations where you want to view the recording... so much for cheap surveillance solutions & offering.....you are helping them to sell their cheap cameras without their software support and giving users choice of other apps at one location..

keep up the good work.

I am currently looking for free app for DCS-930L with Audio recording.

Will update on my findings

Great List of apps....

Would have been great if you could have mentioned in front of all apps what can they record

VIDEO and/or AUDIO

Dlink should thank you for doing them a favor as their pathetic DView can record but cant play in any other app, you have to install the DVIEW app on all the locations where you want to view the recording... so much for cheap surveillance solutions & offering.....you are helping them to sell their cheap cameras without their software support and giving users choice of other apps at one location..

keep up the good work.

I am currently looking for free app for DCS-930L with Audio recording.

Will update on my findings

Thanks,

Thanks for the kind words and anything you can contribute to add to this list would be greatly appreciated by the community.  ;)

Thanks for pointing out the error! I thought about subdividing by platform, but there a number of vendors listed that offer multiple platforms all at the same cost and same link. The list is much easier to maintain with the mixed approach. . .  :-\

CamViewer app for iOS http://camviewerip.com/Home
... working in Basic Image Mode, using
   cameraip:port/mjpeg.cgi
         or
   cameraip:port/video.cgi
... the "more available in portrait mode" doesn't seem to do anything.
... the app seems to stop after maybe a minute?

Maybe it would be a good idea to segment the application list by platform (Android, iOS, Win, Mac, Linux) ?

- IP Camera Viewer - Platforms: Windows Cost: Free    (Last Updated: 09/13/2012)

Is a 'joke', IMO. A schill to get you to download other software.

It does what it says, view an IP camera, and it's free, but that's about all.

e.g. It time / date stamps the video window, with no way to turn it off. Since it's already turned on on the camera itself ...

Aside from the configuration settings of the camera, there are no configuration settings for the software itself. It does no more than vlc does, except, perhaps, let you view more than 1 camera at once.

I would look elsewhere.

I have considered this in the past, but the list isn't all that long and many of the products listed support multiple platforms, requiring the replication and maintenance of multiple instances of the same product.  :-\

I have considered this in the past, but the list isn't all that long and many of the products listed support multiple platforms, requiring the replication and maintenance of multiple instances of the same product.  :-\

I take your point, but it may still be worth doing some splitting. At least for those single platform items. Have one section, multiplatform, to handle those others. I, for example, could then skip over any iPhone or Mac specific sections, as I do not run those platforms. For that matter, splitting up by platform may not be unreasonable, even with duplicate entries. People look for software within the platforms they run / available to them.

I do wonder if instead of repeating the list periodically, you should just keep the editing the original post. That way there's only one real copy of the list floating around. People will know to always go to the first post of the thread to find the current list.

Each time the list comes out I rescan the list looking for updates or changes. Perhaps instead of reposting the entire list, you could post 'software x entry added/updated', OP list (with link) updated. I might not then need to rescan the entire list each time. Given the density, and the age of my eyes, I find the process of re-reviewing the list, and trying to remember what software I've already checked out, somewhat painful. (But thanks for being here at all, I SURE appreciate it!)

I sure get you are volunteering your time to do this, and I SURE appreciate that. This is all just CDN$0.02.

It would be useful if you could expand the list / not have it quite so dense. And I think it would be useful if some additional comments per package accompanied each list item.

Here are some suggestions:
(Candidate additions noted. Some not D-Link, or even IP Cam, specific.)

D-Link Surveillance Center <- NOTE: Although blue text, not a link. Could you fix the link or remove the blue?

D-Link Surveillance Center - Platforms: D-Link DNS-325/345 Cost: $0     (Last Updated: 01/2013)
- NAS software. (For those like me not intimately familiar with D-Link model #'s.)

D-ViewCam (Desktop Client) - Platforms: Windows Cost: Free     (Last Updated: 11/2011)
- very capable 'server' software, if you can get it to run. Reports of infinite loop settings changes / software restarts. (So try it on a different computer.) Worth checking out. (The free gem of the list, if it will run for you, and you have the appropriate product.) Note: Takes over entire screen (but can be minimized) - particularly irritating with multiple monitors.
- enterprise class software likely suited for home, but perhaps not elsewhere unless running Windows Server, due to the 10 connection limit of non-server Windows OS's.

D-ViewCam (Android) - Platforms: Android Cost: Free     (Last Updated: 12/2012)
- requires an instance of D-ViewCam (above) to connect to.

IP Camera Viewer - Platforms: Windows Cost: Free    (Last Updated: 09/13/2012)
- very basic, no frills, "Is this thing turned on?" app.

iSpy - Platforms: Windows Cost: Free Installation Guide: DCS-930L    (Last Updated: 01/2013)
- very capable 'server' software, free for single PC instance only, subscription based otherwise. Free version provides no remote access to or from. Web site lists an extensive and rich capability far beyond most, including D-ViewCam above - but for a not inconsiderable cost. Interface not particularly 'pretty'.

mydlink Lite (Android) - Platforms: Android Cost: Free (Last Updated: 11/2011)
- connects to your mydlink.com account. Note: each instance must log in using the mydlink.com e-mail address and password - which reveals the cam's admin password. Share prudently. So, perhaps not the nanny cam software you'd let your neighbour use.

mydlink.com (* ADD *) - All browsers (full functionality ONLY with Internet Explorer) - see web site. Free, only with/for appropriate / box indicated D-Link Cloud product purchases.
-  MUST use Internet Explorer for full functionality. Free IE plug in installed permits camera to tunnel through the connection (e.g. RTSP) - such tunnelling unavailable in other browsers. (Live view still available, though, via Quicktime.) IE also enhances with access to microphone and local recording of live footage. Note: each instance must log in using the mydlink.com e-mail address and password - which reveals the cam's admin password. Share prudently. Unlike the direct web interface, no 'view only' userid / access possible. Therefore, a 'view my own cam' service, not a 'view my cam' equivalent.
- for SD cams, such as the DCS-2132L, the only mechanism other than direct web interface or physical access to card, able to access the files locally stored on the SD card.
- web based, and rather slow, particularly due to the encrypted tunnelling, as a result.

native web interface (* ADD *)
- different products with different capabilities. e.g. With appropriate firewall hole poked, remote view my cam functionality possible, albeit 'ugly'. May in and of itself, with no additional software, provide sufficient remote access for your needs.

Motion - Platforms: Linux Cost: Free     (Last Updated: 03/2013)
- no gui. Likely not a complete solution in and of itself.

Yawcam - Platforms: Windowse Cost: Free (Last Updated: 03/2013)
- currently reporting difficulties for some, likely due to problems with later java's. (From memory, I can no longer make it run because of this) worth investigating as you journey on your learning curve.
- excellent and comprehensive functionality, although a rather bland interface. A good choice post "does my camera work at all" stage, and, for some, entirely sufficient.

Zoneminder - Platforms: Linux Cost: Free    (Last Updated: 08/2012)
- a complete solution, but not for the non-Linux fainthearted. Surprisingly rich and easy to use, once familiar with the interface. Greatest difficulty most have is in getting their (USB Webcam) hardware to work - a non-issue if that's not your hardware. e.g. IP Cams. VM's available - no need for a standalone Linux running computer until you're ready and feel the need.

ManyCam - Platforms: Windows, Mac Cost: Free - http://www.manycam.com/ - "The best free live studio & webcam effects software!"
- found via http://www.yawcam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1264 "You should be able to use more than one webcam software simultaneously. You can you something like 'ManyCam', Its free and fairly easy to use. It simply acquires the Cam, Then feeds it to other software. Its also a fun program. "
- perhaps useful here if only to feed USB cams elsewhere on your network into other software.
(- I've not used it myself.)

Dorgem - open source Platform: Windows Cost: Free - http://dorgem.sourceforge.net/
- discontinued, capable, but USB cams only (?). Perhaps useful / excellent here if only to feed USB cams elsewhere on your network into other software.

TeboCam - open source Platform: Windows Cost: Free - http://teboweb.com/WebCam.html
- capable, but USB cams only (?). Perhaps useful here if only to feed USB cams elsewhere on your network into other software.

vlc - open source Platform: PCs Cost: Free - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
- although a media player, also capable as a relay and/or recorder, e.g. RTSP in (Open/Network Stream) out to multicast (apparently). Multicast being finicky / problematic / bandwidth hogging, over wifi. Definitely useful as a sanity check.
- multiple cam view apparently possible via Mosaic add in, http://wiki.videolan.org/Mosaic.

IP Cam Viewer Lite - Platform: Android Cost: Free - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rcreations.ipcamviewer
- just works. Particularly useful for standalone / no PC sanity check. Give to your coworkers at need, for a 'nanny cam' without involving them with the complexity of PC access or playback, if that's not their particular need. (Others more directly involved may need more, on their computer, but they'll still like this as they move around during their day.) Can record.

I get if you want to trim this list, given it's "DCS-compatible" orientation, however, I got here for that purpose, then discovered such is but part of this ecosystem. These other entries were items I found useful along the way to get here, before being willing to put out the $$$ for an IP cam. I was then able to leverage that experience once I did get the IP Cam. Others may need to traverse the same learning curve, and this may help them do so more quickly.

So, although you may wish to trim and keep focus, a link or two to other such useful or more generic lists, would be useful. Answering the question: I need more, are there other user vetted useful links to which I can go to for more information on 'all this stuff'.

Also exceedingly helpful: UPnP Discover - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marichitas.upnp.discover

- to quickly answer, no PC required ... where the heck did the camera go -this- time! (Move the cam to a new network, dynamic assigned DHCP address, cam went ... where?)

Thank you for your detailed response. I have revisited this issue many times on other boards in this forum, as I maintain 20+ lists (I lost count) for other products related to firmware and other items.  The current approach is the easiest to maintain given the total volume of content I'm managing.  Setting your forum preferences in your profile to "view most recent posts first", will always place the latest list up top when you visit the thread.

An alternate approach which I used on other lists (and subsequently abandoned), but may work here is two threads:

(1) Master List (one locked thread with ONE post)
(2) Contribution List (open thread in which content is contributed and subsequently promoted to the master list)

I'll need to roll around this idea for a while. I originally abandoned this idea on previous attempts b/c new visitors were too easily confused by the two lists and I had to keep the two lists synchronized.

 :-\  ???  :-\  ???

I will revisit your lengthy post in a few days to see what we can do with the content when I have some free cycles to read through everything. I'm not trying to bury your post, but need to re-post the master list as the most recent thread to keep things fresh.

I take your point, but it may still be worth doing some splitting. At least for those single platform items. Have one section, multiplatform, to handle those others.

I will revisit your lengthy post in a few days to see what we can do with the content when I have some free cycles to read through everything. I'm not trying to bury your post, but need to re-post the master list as the most recent thread to keep things fresh.

Understood, and expected. Thank you for the consideration and listening.

This thread has been valuable, both as card catalogue / reference, and for accompanying comments for software impressions / evaluations. Whether or not my comments are injected into the master list, hopefully they will be useful to some, some of the time. (Thus my 'detailed' posting.)

A slight revamping of the presentation format may, however, help newcomers not have to traverse the entire list to acquire higher level overviews / summaries such as I tried to provide some examples of. e.g. D-View on Android needing a running D-View on Windows, isn't currently self-evident, and is rather time saving to know. (And it would be useful to easily ignore Mac/iPhone entries, if that's one's bent.)

Thanks again for listening.

I have DCS 942L AND DCS5222L and I want to monitor these video from my iphone using 3g connection. I tried downloading some one the apps mentioned but don't know what to enter for IP address. I was able to get a live feed from one camera but not on the other camera since my router has only 1 IP address. How can I can I access the other camera?
Thanks,

Hi,

I have published a new application on Windows Phone 8 Store to connect and view up to 4 DCS5222-L cameras.

Its name is simply "My DCS5222-L"

This software is free and can be found at :

http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=c45698a6-8ae4-4935-96e8-76fe2f921a9a

Or, in the WP store, just search for "my dcs".

This software was first made for my own use but I think it may be helpfull for everyone with a DCS5222-L and a Windows Phone 8.

Any chance this app will work with other DCS model cameras?

Maybe, I don't really know...

The software is very very simple : it tries to connect to the http://{IP}/eng/mainFrame.cgi to check if privacy mode is on or off.
If privacy is on, it opens a dialog to ask if the user wants to put privacy off and retry to connect.
If privacy is off, it connnect to the MJPEG stream of the camera at http://{IP}/video/mjpg.cgi

The pan/tilt is made by sending commands via http://{IP}/cgi/ptdc.cgi?command=set_relative_pos&posX={X}&posY={Y}

The preset positionning is made by sending commands via http://{IP}/cgi/ptdc.cgi?command=goto_preset_position&presetId={Preset}

So any D-Link cam with the same commands set could be compatible. Maybe if someone have some informations about commands for others cams and want to be integrated, I sure can do it.

But informations are really hard to find about each camera and wireshark was a very helpfull tool to spy the dialog between the embeeded java interface and the camera.

I think you will find there are a number of members in this forum that would be very interested in prospect of modifying your app to work with other cameras.  ;)

Here is a solutiom for TheTraut and my contribution for you all: (im surprised it wasnt here...)

VLC (PC/Mac)

- File-> Open Network-> URL

Here you insert your DCS-942s IP address like so: "rtsp://IPADDRESS:554/play1.sdp"

You should now be able to see AND hear your cam.

Simple and Free.  I'm a big fan of VLC.

Regards,

Paul

P.S- If you need to adjust your video settings...Do so in the appropriate Video Profile section of D-link's Web Set-up.

D-Link released v1.1.3 of Justconnect+ for the iPhone and iPad: Justconnect+ Mobile App (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53472.0)

"Justconnect+ is an easy, intuitive and powerful application allowing you to keep an eye on your home, office or facilities anytime and anywhere. You can monitor camera live view, control PTZ cameras, create snapshoot, send email with snapshot and trigger digital output with clicks."

A related topic that could also be summarized because it's not well documented is how to get still pictures out of the cameras. This is useful because still pictures may work on devices that video doesn't, or that you don't own and can't install the viewer add-ons to. You'll need only a web browser. Viewing a still picture is also faster than opening a video viewer if you just want to take a quick look, and also doesn't require as much bandwidth (in case you are on a limited bandwidth connection or one where you pay per megabyte). I use this sometimes instead of viewing live video.

This method works (with slight variations) on all the cameras I've tried:

http://<ip address>:<port>/image/jpeg.cgi

Some cameras accept variations.

On the DCS-2310L and DCS-2332L you can add the following to specify which video profile to use (this selects the image resolution):
http://<ip address>:<port>/image/jpeg.cgi?profileid=1
(or profileid 2 or 3).

On the DCS-942L you can also use a secure connection (so your userid/password aren't sent as clear text):
https://<ip address>:<port>/image/jpeg.cgi
Be sure to specify https: along with the port number you configured as the https port, if you specify http: for this secure access port it won't work. You'll also have to accept a warning about an invalid certificate, unless you go to the trouble of getting one registered to yourself (some of the cameras appear to to support this, I haven't tried).

The DCS-930L also supports:
http://<ip address>:<port>/image.jpg
(or image/jpeg.cgi works too, like all the other cameras).

For this to work (and for 3rd party viewers to work) you'll need to open a port on your router for direct access to the camera (and be sure you've set secure passwords to the camera), or be on the local LAN with the camera.  You might be able to set up port forwarding via your router setup menus.  But if your router supports UPnP, the easiest method may be to set up a port through the camera's setup menu.  Turn on UPnP port forwarding in the camera advanced setup (network settings), and specify a unique port number per camera and per function (some cameras only support one port for http access, some also support other port numbers for https and rtsp).  You'll use the port number to select which camera and which function you'll access. You can pick almost any port number. You're best off using a "user port" (numbers 1024 to 49151) or "dynamic port" (numbers 49152 to 65535). You can pick any that's not already used for something else on your network (most or all in these range are probably not used in most home networks).

The IP address will be your router's IP address and the port number you specified if accessing from outside your network.  From inside your network, you would point to the camera's IP address, with the port number requied only if you've changed it from the default 80. If you don't want to use your router's ip address, which might change from time to time as the URL, you can register with a Dynamic DNS service to have a fixed name.

For a few years I've been using the following w/ the Dlink 932L cams...

OSX:  Security Spy
http://www.bensoftware.com/securityspy/
Has been a solid reliable program, but not been able to get audio to stream for some reason

iOS: IP Cam Viewer (already listed here)
Very reliable, and audio comes through as well as video

Nice.

I created this list for the benefit of the forum community (on a D-Link owned/managed domain), and need to clearly remove the possibility users assuming that these third party software products were recommended by D-Link. D-Link has no control over the security, stability, or system availability claims made by these external vendors. This may be patently obvious to most users, but it needs to be said nonetheless.

I have created a tiny client specifically for the DCS-5020L, but it will probably work with other models as well.

It's free and open source.  8)

With respect to IP Cam Viewer Lite and DSC-930 and 932:

When running in multi screen view (top level of app) your live video does not cause the green light on your cameras to blink on and off.   Only when you go to single camera view will the green light blink on and off.

Found this to be odd.

It is possible to view the video feed from many D-Link cameras in the free, open-source media player "VLC".  http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
The website claims support for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and others.
VLC is also great for playing most types of media such as movies, music, DVDs, etc.

To view the video stream (only, no audio):

In VLC, go to Media - Open Network Steam
For the Network URL, enter http://IPaddress:portnumber/video/mjpg.cgi (Where IPaddress and portnumber are the IP Address and port number for your camera.)
You will be prompted for your username and password, then the feed will start.
If you want to have an always-on-top video frame, you can set VLC to "Always On Top" in the Video menu, and "Minimal Interface" in the View menu.

You can also add your username and password to the URL to skip the login prompt like so: http://username:password@IPaddress:portnumber/video/mjpg.cgi

The audio stream is available separately at http://IPaddress:portnumber/audio.cgi
In my version of VLC, the video would play continuously, but the audio would play 30 seconds at a time.
There is also an option for playing two sources of media concurrently, but setting the Audio stream as a secondary media source would present two login prompts, but only the primary stream (video) would play.

Just as a note, tried "ispy" and it looked great. However my windows 7 laptop it was running on would shut down after several hours on its own. Repeated numerous times. Do not know if that program is the culprit but I shut down the application and the computer seems to be behaving better.

Hi, Just providing some further info on the support for our new DCS-825L Baby monitor.

ReverendTed is correct on the /video/mjpg.cgi URL. Most software will sure handle MJPEG okay, but if you point your software to the 'Real Time Streaming Protocol' URL, you'll get the much smoother (25+ fps) H.264/MPEG4 feed, including audio, as used in the mydlink baby monitor app! rtsp://admin:pass@ip-address:554/play1.sdp (or play3.sdp appears to be a stream of the MJPEG version).

I've confirmed the RTSP/SDP works great through VLC (on MacOSX and Windows) as a Network Stream url, and also in iSpy (Win64 using the FFmpeg engine).

Now if only the mydlink baby android app was as comprehensive in its monitoring settings as iSpy...

Also, now I'm curious about the other backdoor functionality of this hardware/firmware. If I can work out what the login/pass for the Telnet console is would be sweet: /cgi/admin/telnetd.cgi?command=on

Hello.
I have four D-link DSC 2136L cameras on a network.
I'll use them for a scientific experiment, so I'll need to have the live view of all the four and then manually start and stop recording manually. I want to record to the sd cards which come with the cameras.

I tried to use viewcam software for this purpose, but I was not able to do this.

Could you please suggest a free alternative software which allows me to do this? I tried iSpy and it performs really well, but I'm not able to record to the internal sd cards....just to my computer. So I need an alternative that is able to record to the sd cards.

Thank you in advance

Best Server app for multiple cameras: Blue Iris $49.95 (http://www.blueirissoftware.com/)
Client apps to connect to server:
Apple: Best iPAD and Android app: Blue Iris $9.99 App Store
Android: Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueirissoftware.blueiris)
Windows 8.x (Modern) $2.99 'Blue Iris Companion' (3rd party) sync's to all of your Windows email desktops using the same email.

You can have all 3 for less than $80. The server application just works. (I use Server 2012 r2)
It is highly customizable, can be remoted into using DYNDNS by all of the above client apps. Notifications, Snapshots, Videos and control (customizable). MMS streaming as well. Great support!

Best app I ever purchased for camera recording, control and remote viewing.

Do any of the above allow remote two way audio on iOS besides MyDlink?
MyDlink is just way too slow to be of any use. I'm looking for an app that does direct connect that allows two way audio.

Hi;

I have used, and continue to use Genius Vision.  It is primarily an ONVIF product but you can manually enter the url. I have used it on DCS-932L, and some China brands as well. The DCS-942L can use ONVIF and works well.  The software is a current product the is still being maintained. The product can be used free for non - commercial use. It has an android client that works well. I have tested on WIN 7, 8, 10, All work although Win 10 is not final yet I had no problems. It allows 16 channels without a paid license. I have a mix of cameras and it just works.

I have been using one that's not on the list:
tinyCam Monitor, Android, http://tinycammonitor.com/
also on Android Market
Free version and Pro ($1.99)

I would think that Net Eye Camera would work whenever IP Cam Viewer does. Net Eye Camera is a repackage of IP Cam Viewer. I have not tried it with the DLink, maybe someone else will.

Seconded;

tinyCAM Free(Pro) ;  I used for over a year before purchasing the Pro version.

Latest release as of Oct 15 includes menu/onscreen control's for all the common features of the DLINK - DCS camera's.

Reason for sticking with this software, is that it's been rock solid stable on CyanegenMod10 on a HP Touchpad.  Provides enough control and additional features to cater for almost everything.

product name: OWLR
website: owlr.com
supported platform(s): iOS and Android
cost: Free

I've been using OWLR for a replacement of JustConnect+ for a while now because it doesn't support the 934. They just released version 1.0. This version seems really nice. It's fast and has plenty of functionality for a v1.

Hi,
I'm using GeniusVision too and, as reported by JavaLawyer, it works on Windows too (in the list it's only mentioned Android and Windows Phone).
Not being picky, just that a user skimming through the topic won't see it  ;)

I have a remote location that requires a Peer to Peer service like myDlink since ddns will not work for my application without a valid external IP address.  I've been successfully using a service called Ivideon which is a software/cloud solution which works very well and is compatible with a multitude of IP cameras and directly supports a lot (most?) of Dlink IP cameras.  The server component of the software allows one to select a generic camera where you can build the appropriate url to the internal camera if not directly supported.  I've been able to integrate an old Foscam IP camera using a custom URL.  I also installed IP Camera Free on an iPhone and connected it... but had to disable security since the iOS app didn't support url authentication.

You can look at your web cam video streams and listen to audio on supported devices including DLink cameras remotely using their iOS, Android, web, computer thick client apps.

It is a cloud service and they sell monthly subscriptions to store your video to their cloud service.  However, their server component is a small exe (they support linux, mac too) and it appears to store short clips generated by motion detection locally which you can view remotely as an event at no cost.

You can find their website at www.invideon.com.

Incredibly slick and functional system, very impressed so far.

Loaded Genius Vision and it works great with two of my dLink cameras - both DCS-2330L's.  But, I have 4 other dLink cameras that will not work with Genius Vision - DCS-5020L.  Any thoughts?  Thanks...

Has anyone been able to get the DCS-8200LH to work with Motion/MotionEye?

I've tried a number of different URLs from the Network Camera FAQ, and always get "Unsupported camera" from the Add Camera interface in MotionEye.

Thanks,
Mark
