Decrease in Download Speeds thru DIR-655
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:50:16 PM »

I get 20Meg download speeds if connected directly to my cable modem.  Once I introduce the DIR-655, my downloads drop to 8meg.  Does the DIR-655 support 20meg?  ISP said there may be configuration changes that can be made to increase the download speeds.  Any suggestions?  I really don't want to purchase another router.
Thanks.

It's not the router.  My DIR-655 gets 8 - 10 mb/d with my 10 meg service.  I'm not sure what might help though as I'm still getting used to this router as well.

Now I'm assuming you connect to your cable modem via ethernet cable.

I get my full internet speed (15/2) throught wireless and wired.

When connecting through the router, are you connecting via wireless or wired?

If wired, well that sound weird. Try www.speedguide.net, TCPOptimizer. It works for XP and Vista (I have both) Unknown what it would do for W7.

If wireless, make sure you look through the sticky for getting a 300Mps connection. Also check your wireless adapters Device Manager settings and make sure "n" stuff is set to Auto.

Also, try turning off any options. By the number of posts in this forum, I head QoS tends to cause alot of slowdown. Mine is set to OFF/DISABLED.

Try these websites for speed tests:
http://speedtest.net/
http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp

They should be fairly close.

I hope this helps.

I have multiple machines.  Two are wired (XP) and two are wireless(W7) and all get about the same. My Dlink has nothing configured other than the wireless.  QoS is not enabled and I have no Web or application blocking.  I did try both the speedtest.net and the pcpitstop speed tests and they came back with similar results - 8.5meg via my wired XP machine.  I think I'll purchase another router and see if that works.

Thanks for the feed back.

Oh, forgot to ask.

Do you force your WAN to a specific speed?

Read my posts in:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=11283.0

I found forcing the WAN connection slows down wireless speed, Unknown what it does to wired.

No. My WAN speed is set to AUTO.
