2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wireless Experiences...Please post here
« on: August 06, 2013, 07:54:26 AM »

Looking for experiences with the Wireless on the DGL-5500.

2.4Ghz and or 5Ghz:
1. Range or distances between devices and router. Any comparison with other D-Link Wifi routers.
2. Wireless Modes used. Mixed mode or Single N or AC.
3. Connected client devices being used.
4. Connection speeds seen on client devices and using InSSIDer app.
5. Actual file xfer speeds between 2 devices, i.e. wireless client device and wired LAN File share or server connected to the DGL-5500.

Any or all of these suggestions for testing, please post your experiences and results here.

Thank you.

So yesterday after I noticed that new FW for the DIR-868L was released and included new Bridging features, so I set up my 865L and 868L routers and began to bridge these routers and connect them to the DGL-5500. Setup didn't seem to be seamless as it should have been. I was successful in getting the 886L connected however during the actual connection process, I noticed that the Site Survey didn't list my SSIDs. I happen to look over at the 5500 and noticed that the Power light was off and the Internet globe on ON.  ???

I had to power cycle the 5500 and on a 2nd attempt did the 868L connect.

Finally after getting the 868L to connect, I connected the 865L and again, found the SSID was not listed in the Site Survey. I looked over again and noticed the Power light was OFF on the 5500 and the Internet globe was ON. Again, I had to power cycle the 5500. After another attempt, the 865L finally connected.

I also notice that I think it's the behavior of the 865L and 868L to gain a local LAN IP address from any router as I noticed that they both appeared in the Dynamic Clients list with new IP addresses that differ from the 192.168.0.50 address which is displayed at reboot time when these routers are put into Bridge mode. Also these routers do not have the option to input a static IP address which can make for some interesting NAT issues seen on XBL. I would like to see the ability to statically input IP addresses.  ;)

After initially installing the bridges and then placing them where needed, 1 xbox connected to each. I checked the NAT status in BO2 and both were open NAT. I came back later on to actually play.

Gaming was good initially and signal bars were green however a few games in, signal bars only showed 3 Yellow and would not go back to green. I figured that maybe setting the router from AC to single mode N would help so I did that, and turned off the xboxes. After router was back online and xboxes ready, Moderate NAT appeared in BO2.  ???

We just played for a while as I couldn't take the time to troubleshoot. After dinner was over I thought lets reset the xboxes, I changed the 865L out for a different AP that had a static IP address set. I then factory reset both xboxes, left my xbox connected to the 868L and the roommates connected to the different bridge. After everything was back to ready, BO2 reported OPEN NAT. Gaming was good and full 4 Green bars were seen for the rest of the evening.

I'm going to put back the 865L back online with the 868L today and retest with single N and AC modes.

One thing I noticed, at least with my xboxes, if Moderate NAT is seen in the game, I'm having to reset the xbox Network back to Factory to clear this status and get OPEN NAT back. Not sure if this is xbox or a combination of xbox, router and configuration.  ???

DGL-5500 v1.01 - 5Ghz Mixed modes, WPA2/AES only. Need to check Channel, I think it was 36.  ???
DIR-865L v1.05 Bridged Mode
DIR-868L v1.01 Bridged Mode
10-15ft distance between router and bridges.
