Title: DCS-932L - Firmware Wishlist
Post by: JavaLawyer on August 16, 2011, 04:17:38 AM
Now that the DCS0-932L has a dedicated board we can restart our firmware wishlist.

- support for daylight savings time
- prevent motion trigger when switching between Day and Night modes

- prevent motion trigger when switching between Day and Night modes

Adding this feature would create a potential security gap. A would-be criminal could add (or block out) light to force a day/night mode switch and walk past the camera without detection.

Motion detection email and/or motion detection FTP on a schedule.

Right now there is a schedule feature but it doesn't work together with motion detection. It's one or the other. I would like to set the camera to do motion detection actions only while we are typically at work.

Agreed, the firmware is severely lacks an integration of several of key camera features within the scheduler.

Registered JUST for this ;)

RTSP Streaming.. Using the .cgi files doesn't stream well to things like VLC. Using this to replace baby monitors, and leaving two webpages open seems like overkill.

Cheers,
Jason

The number of accepted characters should be significantly longer.

The mydlink registration should function independently from the Wizard either through the firmware web interface or directly through mydlink.

Minimally, users should have access to the registration functionality independently from the device configuration.

Upon motion detection (scheduled!), then ftp multiple images, pre- and post-trigger, just like the email does.

Please, have Status page (http://x.x.x.x/stsdev.htm) indicate summary of reporting status, i.e. is email or ftp enabled, is motion detection enabled.
It should be easy to at least have a row if numbers.
And, make the time readout REAL - the time shown appears to be a javascript clock that stops and starts, so it is not truly indicating the status of the camera.

Please provide a choice of 2 fps in the Video panel (currently 1,5,7,15,20,[30]) - perhaps could be 1,2,4,8,15,...
The gap from 1 to 5 is quite large, and 1 is just a tad jerky.

If the intermittent background clicking in audio is determined to be software based (rather than electrical interference/noise), then please develop a software fix.
Title: Re: DCS-932L - Firmware Wishlist
Post by: acellier on September 04, 2011, 04:20:21 PM
It seems that there is no way to control frame rate when enabling ftp with motion detection.
Video frame rate seems stuck at 15 fps when motion detection is enabled on the DCS-932L. This results in a flood of images, more than necessary and rapidly fills the ftp server. Such a rate is untenable for email reporting, if it occurs in that mode.
We would prefer 2 fps for motion detection+ftp.

I'm fairly curtain the clicking is because the audio isn't a direct stream - but a loop of about 32 seconds - You can see this by using VLC against the audio stream.

General - Status page containing the number and type of connections currently served AND ACTUAL TIME OR OPERATIONAL STATUS -
currently, a javascript keeps time incrementing making it appear the camera is connected even when powered off.

Posting replies (rather than modifying an existing post) is the only way to ensure this thread remains at the top of the list. Additionally, if you go into your account settings you can configure the most recent post to display first:

I would have expected that this camera would at least have the same + more features then the DCS-1130.

The ability to record or capture images to network drive is crucial for security cameras.

I upgraded to this camera for the night vision support but now I lost the main feature I used it for

The DCS-942L has on-board recording functionality, but unfortunately the DCS-930L and DCS-932L do not.

D-Link is aware of our list, and I am actively pursuing information on what, if any, impact our suggestions have on product development. From personal experience I know that on other boards within this forum D-Link has incorporated user suggestions in firmware updates for other D-Link products.

Hey folks I'd like to add my 2 cents... currently using Firmware 1.02 03

Fix: It appears that the DSC-932L doesn't retain configuration if power unplugged for short period of time whereas the DSC-930L does (I must power off the units nightly in order to conserve stored solar power)

Fix: Full version info upper right corner of screen. ie build #

Addition: "Update Now" button when "Synchronize NTP Server checked" when setting time configuration.

Retain "NTP Server Used" in memory

Addition: Camera Name and time actually overlayed in video stream "if selected" instead of only displayed in app.

Thanx

I'll need other users to validate this before I can add this to the list. I personally have not experienced this issue. The longest I've had my camera unplugged, however, was around 45 minutes.

Hi,
To motion detection, I would add "interval of x minutes before decting the next motion".
It may prevent from being rejected by your e mail server if someone is staying a long time next to a cam with motion detection activated.
Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for here. Is your goal to reduce the frequency of emails from motion events?

Yes, in case somebody stays few hours next to a cam, you'll get so many E mails that your ISP will reject your mails for about 24hrs. Then if you leave your house you're not protected anymore.
It's a happy middle between sensitivity of detection, mail rejection risk (then no protection), home being empty or not.
It should be a value between 1 to 10 minutes (like 1, 2, 3, 5, 10).
I used this parameter with my previous cams (with 5 minutes) and never got rejected since I used it.
With my 4 new DCS932L and sensitivity at 5%, I have this issue.
In addition, when one cam is sending too many mails, every cam of the same type (or may be Brandt) is being rejected by my ISP (using same E mail address or different ones). When one of my 4 DCS932L is sending too many mails, my 4 DCS932L are being rejected, but not my old cams.
Thanks

On top of my wishlist I like to see SSL. I got this camera (as a gift) for home security. Doesn't it seam right that this kind of product should have secure login and video stream? It is rather easy for anyone wanting to do harm to listen in on your wi-fi and crack the encryption in a few minutes. They then snap up your html session on the wi-fi signal and read the video stream.

Second is motion detection email on a user defined schedule.

This would be very useful for me and other users as can be seen from this topic: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38731 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38731)

Currently users have to cover the LEDs with electrical tape or open the camera and cut some wires when using an external IR source.

what about the new complete "wishlist" you have done ... maybe some features will be done or it will remain "wish" ?.?. and how long ???

I have two DCS932L(s) for a new customer but they currently do not record videos (this feature is a must for this guy). I don't know if to wait or to change them with other IP cameras ...

Thank you in advace,

I know that D-Link reviews these boards, but can not say if or when any of our suggestions will be integrated in new firmware. As far as recording video, the only option presently available on the DCS-932L is to use D-ViewCam (or a third party application) running from a PC on the same network as your DCS-932Ls. Newer DCS models (e.g. DCS-942L) have the ability to record video to on-board removable memory or to an external storage device.

Hello all,

Add another vote for Motion detection email  and FTP on a user defined schedule.  In addition, I'd like to have email send 320x240 images and FTP to transfer 640x480.  This is probably beyond what a firmware update could handle but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks, great work on compiling the list.  Here's hoping D-Link actually does something with the wishlist, there are many other items I'd find useful.

When DLink produces new firmware, hire or assign a tech support person who really understands how the camera/system works.  Tech support as is now, appears to be next to useless.  One cannot recommend to buy the camera with the situation as now exists.

The one minute time limit is not a feature that can be turned on/off, but rather an issue that exists between the router settings and mydlink (not the DCS-932L).

I believe your request is already covered on the following existing entry:

You can already change email and motion detection through mydlink, Settings Tab > Advanced Settings, which will open the camera settings for modification.

Fix the issue where the camera still creates UPnP ports on the router when UPnP forwarding is set to disabled.  I have been messing with the UPnP settings all night on the camera and no matter what the setting it still opens ports on my router.  Each time it happens it kills access to a web site I am hosting.  I finally changed the port on the camera to stop the conflict.

  • Motion Detection - Ability to record video (rather than just images) to an FTP server triggered by motion detection events

  • TBD

As mentioned in another thread, I would like to see a more user definable schedule which allows you to break down the day further, and break it down further into weekday and weekends.

Having the single schedule just isn't very conveniant.

Hi,
i hope D-link will use this list...
I'll had :

- Bug (1.02): Users management does not work (add a user then try to login with its L/P does not seems to work)
- Feature: have access to the logs of the camera to see why it's not reponding (http and ping) sometimes (randomly).
- Center zoom (currently it's located on the middle right), or better: add the hability to change the zoom area.
- Change incomming https port to something else.

L/P = Login/password.
Go to http://[ipofyourcamera]/advanced.htm
Then add a user account (login+password): The user is created and listed at the bottom but it's impossible to have a direct access to the camera with this new account (or maybe mine is buggy?).

This is behavior indicative of mydlink, not the DCS-932L firmware
Hum...No: Go to http://[ipofyourcamera]/jview.htm and use the "zoom" : It's always in the middle right of the screen.

Indeed, sorry : my mistake :)

When you create a user account, the password must be no longer than 8 alphanumeric characters. If you created a longer password, the firmware does not generate an error, so there's no way of telling whether or not the password was accepted.

Try a shorter password and log into the UI using one of your custom accounts.

Ok you are right, changing the password worked but if it's a "feature" it's a security breach + the fact that there is no error is a bug imho :)

Hi,
I know that is already there but scheduled motion detection is a must for home cameras where you do not have a recording system.
Either I have to turn on the camera when I leave home and turn it off when I arrive or I have to accept tons of emails with my own movements when at home.
Not at all for home use.
Hope it will be fixed soon
Thanks a lot for the big effort on all the other aspect.
Cheers

Unfortunately, that request (although interesting) strays too far from the core functionality of the DCS-932L.  The camera presently has no integration/plug-ins with third party apps and there are many large gaps in the core functionality that need to be addressed up-front.

It's a great pity. :( I use the cam to oversee my ****er spaniel. And I'd like to quickly share funny pictures of it via Instagram or in some other convenient way. What a strange thing that D-Link didn't foresee such use cases. Although social network integrations should be really interesting for camera vendors from the marketing point of view.

There's no doubt that the integration of Instagram would provide value, but judging from the current state of the firmware, I would think that integration with third party software is not planned for the immediate future.

On top of having three D-link 932Ls cameras I love, I also have a Linksys\Cisco WVC80N camera and a Logitech Alert 750  camera, and both have motion detection with email alerts and a setting for time between alerts (I know on list already) but on the Cisco you can control the email content to send so many frames before and after motion is detected. So I get a email with about 14 frames and that is the only reason I use that camera

I've just setup two DCS-932L's (firmware 1.0.3) and am considering buying some more.

Features not on the list that I'd like and don't currently see available are:

1) Support for SMB.
Rationale: Home router exports SMB but not FTP. Higher bandwidth to router SMB.
2) Configuring JPEG parameters for image quality.
Rationale: Pictures seem to be fixed around 30KB, still quality does not seem as good as live video feed.
3) Upload to Amazon S3 / Windows Azure / SkyDrive storage accounts (all are REST interfaces).
Rationale: ftp is dying and getting expensive to find, cheaper alternatives exist.
4) Ability to turn off LEDs.
Rationale: camera is immediately visible to an intruder. (alt: use tape).
5) Ability to clone settings from one camera to another.
Rationale: manually cloning settings is tedious and error ridden.

If the source code for the web server is open and has a path for incorporating user changes, I'm happy to spend cycles contributing to making these work.

BTW, OOBE is fairly ugly with these devices. The self-signed certificates, the plugins, turning off UAC, active-X controls that run cmd.exe scripts that futz with the registry etc. Yuk! No chance of my Mom being able to set one up. Once they are working, they are pretty impressive though.

I see my top wishes are already on the list:

Ability to turn off the IR LEDs
More time intervals available for scheduling for motion based email notifications.
Time limit before sending more motion based email notifications.

But how about being able to set the brightness/contrast separately for day and night mode?

I use my camera through a window to monitor my driveway at night.  IR LEDs reflect off the window so by taping over them and turning up the brightness, I can see my driveway.  But when it switches back to daylight mode in the morning sun, the high brightness washes out the image.

This camera has a quite narrow view angle, and a single unit is not able to cover an average room for monitoring. That's why, additionally to the Motion Detection option, Sound Detection would be extremely useful, especially if you have a home alarm and only one camera installed. It would give a huge advantage to monitor the whole property by a single camera: you will get alerted on an initial attempt to get to your home (broken window, opened door, etc...).

It can be implemented as the following:
Sound Detection option (similar to Motion Detection option):
- Enable / Disable
- Sensitivity, %  (0~100%, high sensitivity makes the motions easier to be detected.)

Additionally:
Mail > Time Schedule, below "Motion Detection" block to place a new "Sound Detection" block with the following options:
- E-mail the following text immediately (80 characters max): [Box to type your message]
- E-mail the text above attached with sound file:
Sound duration after Sound Detection was triggered on (1 sec, 2 sec).

As an option, it would be nice to have an interactive icon to turn on/off Motion Detection and separately Sound Detection in a iOS mydlink+ and/or mydink Lite programs (and similar programs under Android platform): next to the Snapshot button, two separate buttons. Motion Detection button may look like a pedestrian pictogram. It becomes blue, when you click the button to turn Motion Detection On. Sound Detection button may look like sound waves limited by a triangular shape or something like http://a.rgbimg.com/cache1sbnCs/users/a/ay/ayla87/600/nszyXeK.jpg (http://a.rgbimg.com/cache1sbnCs/users/a/ay/ayla87/600/nszyXeK.jpg), turns from grey to blue on switching On.
If Status for E-mail Test for the camera is not "Test succeeded", both pictogram are either semi-hidden or red line crossed.

Good (and comprehensive) suggestion.

i mean to integrate a short picture in a edge of the livestream.
The CDS-932L uploads (for my homepage) every hour one pictures over ftp.
It will be nice, if i can choose a little picture (logo) which appears in one edge of the picture which is uploaded to the ftp-server.
Like this picture here in the edge on top left:

i hope you know what i mean. Alternative it will be nice to put the name of the homepage as a text tight in a picture.

  • [Bug] UPnP - When UPnP forwarding is disabled, the DCS-932L still creates UPnP ports on the host router (This creates potential conflicts with other services)

FYI- See: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50721.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50721.0) - This might be the fix for that issue.

Have any of these other points been raised with D-Link via the online support portal? They're normally pretty good for responding to these sorts of issues. I would especially expect the password bug to be well supported through the portal due to potential security implications.

1) Fix the Time-zone issue.  Every time you change the timezone the device gets confused.

2) The other issue is that I wish these supported secure logins, AFAIK they are plain text, not over SSL.
This should be a quick fix to allow this over SSL, port 443...

3) Add a feature that would allow motion detect only during certain hours, like so many other vendors do (like even FosCam).

You can change the time zone, or the offset, then change it back, then hit save, and it will have the wrong time, or it will display the correct time on that page, until you start watching video, and then the Video time is off...  same on the DCS-930L.  If syncing to say north-america.pool.ntp.org (or another verified working varient) it NEVER syncs to the right time (it does on all windows boxes and any other device I ever tried).

Perhaps this has been addressed previously, my apologies if it has...

I operate 3 of these cams at a remote location. I find that when the Day/Night Mode is set to Auto, the switchover between modes always triggers a flood of emails (via Motion Detection). I've tried rolling back the sensitivity, but the only solution is to set the cameras all to full time night mode. This means that in sunlight, the images are quite washed out.

I would like to see the firmware improved to include something like a 20 second suspension in motion detection when the Day/Night mode is switching over. This would give the camera time to stabilize the image before the motion detection kicked back on.

Yes, this item is already on our list. The problem stems from the fact that the motion detection algorithm measures pixel differences between adjacent video frames captured by the DCS-932L. When the camera switches between day/night modes, the DCS-932L detects this pixel differential and triggers a motion detection event. This behavior can reap havoc during twilight hours or even when clouds pass over, as the camera often flips back-and-forth between day and night modes.

I did see this item...

"Night Mode - Include a user-defined delay requiring the light level to drop (or rise) AND stay within the cut-over threshold for x seconds before the day/night mode switches to prevent constant flipping between modes (e.g. when a cloud passes by or during sundown/sunrise)"

However, I believe that while that change would be useful, the motion sensing function must be temporarily disabled during the switch-over... otherwise an email event is triggered at every switch-over. (even if the previously noted change is implemented)

The other thing I'm curious about, being somewhat skeptical, I wonder what are the chances of any of these improvements actually being implemented? I think most manufacturers lose interest in firmware upgrades fairly soon after the product has been released. They're busy developing the next big thing.

When the camera switches between day / night mode, it seems to recognize this as motion detection.  If the day / night is on a daily timer, that will generate at least 2 false motion detections per day.  My camera log is full of them...

It might be useful to have the firmware disable / ignore motion detection prior to switching day / night mode, then reactivate motion detection after the image has stabilized again a second or two later.

Agreed! Motion detection on a schedule is a feature making its way onto the newer model Cloud cameras.  These features you mention are available in the Surveillance Center app that works on the DNR-322L, DNS-325L, and DNS-345.

The ability to view video in real-time via https REALLY needs to be addressed immediately, as the only other recourse is to connect via http, with plain text passwords that can be captured by any router or network device between the two remote locations sending and receiving the traffic.

I also believe that the timezone issue: ( http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40692.msg192637#msg192637 ) has been fixed, but requires a reboot of the camera, and to make it an immediate calculation would be the fix needed now, immediate recalculation upon saving the timezone change.

Another change that would be nice is to see what actual firmware rev one is on in the status screen, as "1.06 (2012-12-21)" doesn't state "v1.06b04"

I did notice that if I am logged on as admin to the camera, I cannot see "admin" logged on to the camera in the "Active User", nor can I see my Android watching live that is authenticated as a different user in the list of currently connected users.  Major security issue, think "wife dressing".

DCS-932L Wishlist
  • [Bug] UPnP - When UPnP forwarding is disabled, the DCS-932L still creates UPnP ports on the host router (This creates potential conflicts with other services)

Got hit with this one on my DCS-932L and DCS-942L. Super annoying bug; renders uPnP on my router useless, since it overrides other devices.

These should definetely be address very soon if D-Link want people to keep bying these cameras. I have 4 already and i need two more but i am struggling to buy them if these things are not addressed. Simple software upgrade can fix these issues.

Do you think this may be getting a bit long for one list? The things we really want looked at seem to be getting a bit lost among the many items that people have "just noticed".

I would propose at least 2 lists. High/low priority maybe. Split between the things that are maybe minor, and the things that would stop us buying another camera of this model.

Other people's opinions about what goes on the high priority list may vary, but for my 2 cents worth the only thing I really want is the motion detection email on a schedule. This has been on the list pretty much from the start but I'm concerned that it's getting lost in the crowd.

I've tried this approach with other products and it didn't work out. Every item on this list was important/critical to the person who submitted it. Although I have a good idea of what is critical to the masses, it's not for me or any particular subset of users to place weight on or trivialize other member contributions.

I would say that without a doubt, https function should be number one top priority, like YESTERDAY...
Plain text passwords are sent until then.

This camera's Release Date: March 3, 2011 (2 years ago).

Try using a newer camera, like a 2132L/2230/5222l for https, like TODAY.

I don't have a 932, but can you try this plain text password:  guest/guest ....

It works on the 2132L/2230.  5222L isn't affected by this hack attack.

Not a very constructive comment, the 932L is a model that is available for sale now. I personally bought mine 3 months ago, not 2 years ago. I think we all have a right to expect software to be kept up to date and issues/bugs addressed. If you don't have a 932L, why are you reading a wish list topic for it?

There is a great deal of crossover in the functionality and firmware (i.e. web UI) between Cloud camera models. Understanding the differences (pros/cons) between different models makes for constructive discussion. Cross-product similarities often place Cloud camera owners (regardless of model) in a position to offer support and advice on other models they may not personally own.

Although there are periodic updates to the legacy Cloud camera model firmware, and as RYAT3 aptly points out, the newer Cloud camera models do in fact correct a number of deficiencies inherent in earlier models as well as offer a plethora of new functionality.

I bought these just a few months ago, and it's not only this DCS-932l that doesn't do https, but the DCS-930L doesn't either.  I bought the DCS-930l (I actually thought I was getting 2x DCS-932L's as I grabbed that and the one behind it) at the same time, and these two were all they had...

Https has been around for how long?  We have been required to send plain-text passwords until recently?

https should have been the default years ago.

I can only watch live video on my phone, with no sound, not on my work PC due to the Java issue, so I don't think I will ever buy or recommend D-Link cameras again with this type of lag on actualy issues getting resolved on cameras purchased recently.

1-->>  IR illuminator control features. --

I have same problem with window reflecting IR,  Also... With enough background light from outdoor lights etc. the sensitive IR camera does not need an illuminator.

2-->> Add finer Motion Detection block selection.

If the Motion detection blocks were all just quartered ( 1/4) then that would give much greater tuning of motion detection  area.

**IDEALLY** : I would like to either add and slide detection blocks around into position or drop and  resize blocks rectangles or BEST.. free draw a line around the areas I want to detect motion (or block out). Define my own blocks/blobs. Example : One area that I am detecting outside a window has lots of foot traffic, objects,  bushes and trees. I want to detect  movement on near side of the trees, bushes and objects but not beyond or the other side. The camera field of view and large motion detection blocks prevents positioning camera optimally for this type of motion detection.

3-->> Auto camera light exposure settings ?

Like on the digital cameras that have auto exposure settings for {evaluative, spot, centered, etc..} because I am having trouble with bright areas changing over time in the image causing overexposure and the dark area being under exposed. I have tried many different Bright / Contrast / Saturation combinations to no avail however going to Night mode seems to help

4-->> More camera exposure settings options

Standard camera or Image style settings such as Color temp, Tint, Sharpness, etc ...

5-->> Magnification Image -- Panning ability ??

I assume magnification is digital ?  if so then would it be possible to have a pan image option while using the magnification buttons ? currently it magnifies just the center of image and you lose the outer edges that you may be more interested in. NOTE this is just image panning suggestion NOT a camera panning suggestion.

6-->> Add Automatic get time from a computer setting or use last known time ?

We get frequent power  fluctuations and the cameras reset their time dates to 1/1/2013 00:00:00. So the year is kept but month day and time all get reset to beginning and then I have to  go back and reset them. We have NO local NTP server setup and that port/service is  blocked by routers or firewalls

7-->> notification or  summary e-mail for accesses/attempts to camera

8-->> Motion detection indicator on the web interface to aid user in  adjusting the proper  sensitivity.

It is trial and error  currently  with frequent inundation with e-mail notifications

Just bought 2 DCS-932L cameras and was surprised to find out that we cannot set motion-detection within a schedule.  Wow.  Forced to unplug the cameras when we are home to stop the detected motion emails.

And what's worse is that this should be an easy code fix (yah "fix" I mean really this is not supported - what a joke) and its been on a "Wish List" for years now (I see complaints about this back to 2011 after Googling the issue.

If there's no plans to fix this now, then no choice but to send these back...  Any official comment from D-Link?  Any bootleg copy of the firmware that does this?

I think if there was any version (official or not) that had that feature, most of us would be using it. I would.

I also think that if you are able to send them back then you should do so. Partially because a message needs to be sent to D-Link that this performance is not acceptable. Mostly though, because I personally think that they are never going to do anything about it, so you should find something else.

Motion detection on a schedule is something that is presently available on the DCS-931L/932L, which are the successors to the DCS-930L/932L. A number of items on this wishlist have made their way onto the newer models. There is no third party firmware that can replace official D-Link firmware.

Okay.  Thanks.

Found one alternative to unplugging (without having to reboot the camera each time) - cover it with a dark cloth/bag.  That's high-tech for you.

Darn, these things work pretty good to...  So close to being exactly what I need.  Are there any D-Link or other brand cameras that offer MotionDetection within a scheduled period?  Since you cannot tell from their product description - its hit or miss unless someone knows from experience.

Darn, these things work pretty good to...  So close to being exactly what I need.  Are there any D-Link or other brand cameras that offer MotionDetection within a scheduled period?  Since you cannot tell from their product description - its hit or miss unless someone knows from experience.

Most of the new D-Link Cloud cameras contain this functionality: The DCS-933L is the successor to the DCS-932L. The DCS-931L is identical to the DCS-933L, except there is no Night Mode (i.e. night vision). The DCS-5010L and DCS-5020L are day/night cameras with pan/tilt functionality.

I was a brand new customer for D-Link (and surveillance cameras in general).  For the lousy $10 I would have gone with the DCS-933L from the beginning, but did not know that camera even existed nor that this one feature was part of that upgrade!  This has been a vast waste of time and energy - D-Link just needs to make it clear what features their cameras offer!  Much frustration could have been avoided...  And now sending these cameras back...

I wouldn't call the DCS-933L an upgrade, as that implies it's the same camera with some additional functionality. The DCS-933L is a completely new camera. D-Link offers a rather large product line of cameras with a range of different functionality. When taken as a whole, the selection can be rather overwhelming. I typically recommend that prospective buyers download the user manual from the D-Link site before making their purchase to better understand the product.

Also, please keep in mind that the DCS-933L was only recently released, while the DCS-932L is a rather old camera by D-Link standards, dating back to early 2011.

You've asked for it and D-Link has delivered. Firmware v1.07b02 is now out and includes motion detection on a schedule.

Well... I'm stunned, but happy with the addition of motion detection schedule. It's really the only thing on the whole list that I personally wanted.

On testing it seems to work OK. Just one point, when I first set a schedule it didn't work. Probably because the current time was already between the start and stop times. I'm guessing it just sets system events to turn it on and off. When I tested it again by setting the start time a few minutes from the time when I saved the changes, it did start detecting motion at the set time. I would have thought that when you saved the schedule settings that it would detect from the system time whether it was inside the set interval and turn detection on or off accordingly, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I guess I can live with that as long as I know.

I think we can remove these from this list:

Hello all,

1. I tested Motion detection on e-mails with schedule last night. Glad to say all went fine including option for time interval between e-mails. My camera email only had about 200 e-mails per day during that time (that i was awake and moving all around the house) in contrast of 5000+ emails per day i had before this option since the cameras are in the house and captured movement 24/7
2. Firmware update usually failed from powerline devices that i have for some cameras but this time it all went smooth !
Thank u D-link for this update.

Note: Motion detection still occurs when sunrise but it is not a big hassle.

So i think we can remove the following from list:

1.Motion Detection - User defined minimal interval between motion detection emails (to avoid flood of emails during a prolonged motion detection event) (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 minutes) - included in seconds in new firmware
2.Night Mode - Ability to disable the IR illuminators (for owners who use external IR illuminators and want avoid reflections off of glass surfaces) - This can be disabled by setting Day/Night Mode to either Always day mode or Manual where u can control on/off IR from video live page.

For me now the biggest issue is e-mail and FTP with video snapshot. Not only pictures. This will increase significantly security from these cameras in case of theft or force entry!

I'll remove the first item, but don't think the second item is addressed. The camera needs an explicit setting to disable the IR illuminator while enabling Night Mode (via scheduling or Auto).

What do you mean by "have positive selection"? Isn't frame rate covered under SETUP > FTP > Time Schedule (motion detection selected)? The controls seem to be there, do they still not work (i.e. legacy issue)?   :-\  ???

I would like to have the option to perform a 90° rotation on the captured images (hence rotating the camera of 90° too). Otherwise said, I'd to be able to select between landscape (default) and portrait. It would be useful to optimize the field of view to certain scenes (narrow corridor for example).

Hi JavaLawyer,

First thank you for your job.

My whish it's about a new feature with the FW 1.07, the great schedule feature for motion detection.
But something bothers me, why the calendar is so simple  :o with only 1 period for all the week ?

It would be a good idea to take the day/night calendar with a period for each day  ;D

Hi,
I would add for motion detection: split the area in different windows and assign a specific sensitivity and a specific size for each window.

This helps when there are bright and dark areas in the field of view.

Thanks

  • Night Mode - Ability to adjust the light level required to trigger the transition between Day and Night Modes
This is a feature that's sorely missed.  My indoor cameras only switch to Day mode when sunlight is pouring in through the windows.  Under most circumstances in room lighting, if Night mode is deactivated, the color view of the room is perfectly fine, but there's no good way to force day mode without giving up support for switching to IR when it's actually dark.

The ability to encode video in h.264 would be super-duper, though I'm not sure that's feasible with a simple firmware upgrade.

I noticed from the 942L Firmware wishlist that the Day\Night threshold item had been addressed (via some sort of improved algorithm it seems).  I hope that's an encouraging sign that we may see a resolution of that.

Another wishlist item: similar to the "disable motion detection during Day\Night changeover", it'd be nice to cut the audio feed during the instant of the Day\Night changeover as well.  With the audio quality as it is, I frequently listen to the replay with the sound turned way up, but the clack of the IR filter is deafening.

  • General - Daylight savings time support [FIXED!]

Can we actually count this one as fixed? It only works for those in the Northern Hemisphere, where the start and end dates do not span a new year. They seem to have done something a wrong with the calculation to decide whether the current date falls between the start and end dates.

Shall we call it "half fixed"?

I may have put too much information and obfuscated my suggestion.

- Disable audio recording during the instant of Day\Night switch to avoid deafening "clack" of the IR changeover

I frequently watch playback of the videos with headphones on and the volume turned up (because the sound pickup isn't fantastic) and when the IR turns on\off, there is an extremely loud clack\pop that is very unpleasant.

Not to be a naysayer (because I don't know the hardware specs and it may in fact be possible), but my understanding is that the 6-frame limitation is related to the amount of memory available to the camera.  The DCS-942L, which has a microSD card for recording, allows for video clips to be e-mailed on motion detection, including up to 5 seconds prior to the event.

I'm not 100% sure what you're implying, but SD card reader does not factor into the ability of the DCS-942L to email video clips, as no SD card is required to use that functionality. The DCS-933L, the successor to the DCS-932L, has no SD card reader and can email video clips. I presume that email/FTP of video feeds is a memory constraint, but since I cannot validate that hardware limitations are preventing video feeds, I added the line item to the firmware wishlist.

Memory:

DCS-932L:  SDRAM  = 32 MB; Flash Memory = 4 MB
DCS-933L:  SDRAM  = 64 MB; Flash Memory = 8 MB
DCS-942L:  SDRAM  = 128 MB; Flash Memory = 16 MB

Thanks for the info!  So the 933 will record and mail a clip of up to 4MB or 15sec, and the 942 also limits the clip to 15 seconds (up to 5 seconds before and 10 seconds after), even with twice the memory.
Nothing wrong with wishing for it, I suppose!

I have a DCS-931L which is essentially the same as the DCS-933L except there is no Night Mode. I've used the camera to record motion video, but don't recall the size/length constraints.

The audio issue persists.  Updated my brand new DCS 932L with the latest firmware and there is constant static in the audio feed.

I have a DCS 931L in the same room, just pointed in a different direction.  The audio from that unit is perfect, ruling out environmental factors.  I've also tried the 932L at different locations with the same static filled results.
