DIR-857 and 450Mb 2.4Ghz Wireless Connection and File Speeds
« on: March 29, 2012, 08:49:50 AM »

Thought I would make a post for those that have this router and have supporting devices that can connect to the 857 at 450Mbs on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

Any results and experiences can be posted here.

From what I know, theres an Apple Mac that supports it along with Trendnets 450Mb adapters. I think Intel makes one Laptop upgrade card.

Let us know what you are using and what your experiences are.
Enjoy.

What average throughput are you seeing with your 450 MB adapter? (upload / download in Mbps)

The DIR-857 pins my DAP-1522 bridges at 300 mbps (their max published data rate) using the 5 ghz band.

I only get 200 mbps or so on the 2.4 ghz band but that band is highly congested in my neighborhood.

All my "real" 802.11g devices now run at 54 mbps (full rated).

Coverage is phenomenal.  My wireless connectivity percentages are all up by 10 to 25 percent wherever I am in the house.  No dead spots anymore!

The DIR-857 is indeed a "beast".  And it goes like the hammers of h_ll!

I will definitely agree about the coverage.
The signal strength on this puppy is phenomenal.

Using inSSIDer to sniff my wireless surroundings:
My dgl-4500 is great (compared to the other networks in my neighborhood)
The dir-857 was phenomenal - clearly leaps and bounds better signal than those in my neighborhood

If you want a router that has excellent coverage - this is the one !
