DNS help
« on: March 19, 2014, 08:40:10 AM »

i need help in setting up my new router.
im having a problem with my smartdns (trickbyte.com), i enter the dns servers that are supplied by trickbyte into the internet setting in the router. it seems to make no difference like that the router is not using the dns servers as it lets me go to sites like bbc iplayer & watch.
also i want to set the router up with the best settings possible to get the maximum speed. I have already updated the firmware and have set the wireless settings to 2.5ghz using 802.11n only & 5ghz 802.11ac only

Did you disable DNS Relay on the router and reboot  the router then all devices?

DNS Relay

In most cases DNS relay works just fine and is a security related feature so that the router handles the DNS addressing instead of ISP handling. D-Link just wants the router to do most of the management.

Enjoy.  ;)

I prefer to manually set WAN port speed. If you now what speed your ISP modem supports then you can manually set it to train to the speed of your ISP modem.

No...what is the WAN port speed of the ISP modem? 10, 100 or 1000Mb?

You can easily connect your wired PC to the modem or wall out let and look at the network connect speed for the adapter in windows...will give you the connection speed there.

Yes...if you don't have a actual ISP Modem, then what ever you use to connect the routers WAN port to is what you would do with your PC.
