Downgrading firmware
« on: September 10, 2009, 06:59:44 AM »

Hi,

Is there any way to downgrade the firmware on this router?

When I was on the EU firmware I had a good signal, a very good wireless transfer speed and overall no wireless restarts... I Also do get a router lockup once in a while..

What options do I have?

Regards

Finally got a response back from D-Link and got an RMA no as well...

Is there a newer version of this router that I can ask D-Link for it??

In the meantime I got an Netgear WNDR3700 dual band router and I found it to be okay...

The 855 still beats it in many areas especially in the interoperatibility area... Once I get my replacement 855 with the EU firmware, I might test it once again and decide which one to keep...

Got my DIR-855 with the 1.12EU firmware and I am very happy with it...
Speeds on the 5Ghz band is around 17.x+ MBps and with the NA firmware I used to get around 7-8MB...

I might sell my new Netgear WNDR3700 after I test my DIR-855 for a few more days...

Can you flash the 1.12NA to the 1.12EU or do you actually have to flash up?  I have an A2 with the 1.12NA in it and the wireless on the 2.4GHz band is dropping packets like a champ.

I think you can flash it with the 1.12EU firmware... DO NOT under any circumstances flash you router with a higher version of the firmware...

Btw I have still not seen one wireless restart logged in the log files...

I know not to flash with anything higher.  Before this better off mess, I had been through 3 DGL-4500's that were all absolutely horrible experiences.  The 1.12NA isn't that bad compared to the **** on the 4500 but the wireless effors on the 2.4GHz have to go since they ruin any online gaming I do on the Wii or though my DSi.

Edit:  It won't allow me to flash to the EU for some reason.  I get the following error when trying to flash the 1.12 to the DIR855A2_FW112EUB01Beta03.

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

Edit 2:  Please excuse my idiocy for not turning off the automatic firmware check for the latest version.  I'm now running the firmware DIR855A2_FW112EUB01Beta11.
