DUB-1312
« on: June 18, 2014, 10:04:25 PM »

I bought a DUB-1312 USB to Ethernet adapter. I am trying to get this working on windows XP. I have tried on 4 different computers each time, in device manager I get a 'Code 39' error "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing."

I have tried using the driver from the supplied CD aswell as from the D-Link website.

Any advice
Cheers

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I have since called tech support. While the guy was very freindly / helpful (tried to be helpful anyway). He had no idea how to fix it.

In the end all he could come up with was, try using xp with something other then SP3 (in fact he suggested trying all without service packs aswell as with SP1 and SP2). I suspect this was more about getting me off the phone because both him and his suprevisor/level 2 tech, had run out of ideas.

Unfortunately for him I had already tried every thing he could think to try. Which I will run throught quickly.

I have tried: Multiple computers (physically different hardware 4 or them, including two different brands), different USB ports within those computers. I have tried the suggested SP2 (I did not try SP1 or no SP at all. As the box specifically states XP SP3 as a 'requirement')

I have tried both the web version and CD version of the driver (although I believe these are both the same version anyway)

Also, I have successfully installed and used this under both Linux (Ubuntu) and Win7.

Does anybody actually have this, and are using it succsessfully with XP?

Thanks

Hopefully someone might have this and will come comment. However, not a lot of activity in the forum for this unit and I don't have one.  :-\

Only thing I might suggest would be to install XP while the adapter is connected to the PC, install the drivers, then start to apply the SPs for XP.

There maybe alternative USB to Ethernet adapters that might work better.

Good Luck.

I had thought about using a different brand/model of USB to ethernet device. But am concerned it may be a windows XP problem??

One thing is, this is going to be a second Ethernet port, so at first thought maybe it was a problem due to that? Although I did disable the onboard ethernet in bios, aswell as disabling it in device manager. I got the same error though.

Can you try a different PC with XP on it? See if it works else where, like a friends or families place that still has XP loaded...

Done that. I have used/tried 4 different computers, 1 Dell, 2 HP's and the 4th was a IEI POS terminal (which is the actual machine it needs to work on), plus I even tried installing it on a VM running in 'XPmode' under windows 7, so 5 different computers including that.

3 of them had XP SP3, one of the HP's only had SP2.

It's for a work project, so have heaps of computers laying around.

So none of them accept for Windows 7 platforms that it fails on all XP attempts?

Well, I guess if it works on those OSs and not XP, something maybe hosed for XP and you'll need to find a different solution for XP.  :-\
