Hello there,

I have a question regarding ping.
I'm able to ping my machines locally, but whenever I try to ping the wan IP address externally it always returns request timed out.
I take it the ping function is disabled on this router, and no option to enable it

Model Name: DIR-880L
Hardware Version: A1   
Firmware Version: 1.08WW

anyone having the same issue?

EDIT it concerns WAN Ping Replies.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case. A1
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status. 1.08B4
What region are you located? CF
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Wired
Has a Factory Reset been performed? Yes
Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch? Yes

WAN Ping respond is not supported on newer generation routers. I presume D-Link didn't include them for security reasons.

Some users really deem this necessary however, this can in no way be enabled?

I don't believe so. ICMP is a security issue for some Mfrs and I presume those wanting or needing it, really should find alternative methods and means or use something different. Maybe some higher business end routers have it however home class, not much used for average home users anyways. I presume D-Link wants there products as safe as possible.

You might check 3rd party FW like DD-WRT or OpenWRT to see if this could be a alternative for your needs...

Thank you for your response, ICPM is required to create an Fsock connection without ping its unable to create a connection to the server.

Have you tried using Virtual Server to see if this might help any? Not sure if it will.

One thing you can and should do. If you need ICMP tests to be done or ran, why not try DMZ on the Router or Go directly to the ISP modem and by pass the router. Run your tests that way to get what you need then put the router back online. Just a suggestion.
