Router Assigning the same IP Address
« on: October 04, 2015, 12:04:34 PM »

I have DIR-860L HW Version A1 Firmware 1.08 and I've been having some difficulty figuring out how it works.  For example, I went into the Admin console and assigned static IP addresses to a number of devices on my network (all the Ethernet connected PCs), however, I've noticed that a cell phone I've connected to the network keeps getting assigned the same IP address as one of the computers (192.168.1.103).  My IP range starts at 100 so I'm a little surprised that the cell phone keeps getting assigned that IP address since all the other devices are already connected.

Has anyone seen this behavior in their DIR 860L and I presume this will cause issues with the other device on the network.

Another problem I have with my DIR 860L is that when I click on the Status button it doesn't actually show all the devices that are attached to it.  My Wireless connections only show a small number of devices when in fact there are many devices connected.  For example it shows 3 devices attached to my 5Ghz range and 2 attached to my 2.4Ghz range but the number of DHCP clients assigned that are using the wireless settings is more than 10.

Thanks for any suggestions/assistance.  I'll try releasing and renewing all of the IP addresses and see if that helps with the IP address conflict I mentioned at the beginning of the post.

Lets get Static and Reserved IP addresses confirmed. There is a difference: Link>DHCP

When Reserving, those are done ON the router and with in the Default IP address range pool on the router. Static IP addresses need to be out side of the IP address range pool.

Post a picture of the wireless status section of what your seeing:

Wireless Configurations

  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have assigned IP addresses for several devices in the DHCP Reservation page but not all of which are outside the IP address assignment range.  I can change that so thanks for the suggestion.

I do have non-default SSID names assigned for both the 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ wireless networks.  2.4GHZ is running n and g on Channel 11 Channel Width of 20 Mhz and the 5Ghz is running AC and N on Channel 149 using the Auto Channel Width (20/140/80)

I've attached a few screen shots of the LAN Status, Wireless Setup and the DHCP Reservations.

What I'm really confused about is why for example an IP address is assigned to my computer (Daddy-PC) using the DHCP reservation address of 192.168.1.100 AND there is another one for 192.168.1.2?  I assigned the IP Address of 192.168.1.2 to an old Linksys WRT400N that I have connected via an Ethernet connection that I use to extend my wireless signal range into another part of the house.  I'm not sure why its picking up the wrong name for this device?  Also, there are some IP addresses that I've assigned that are not displayed in the LAN Computer section.  I assigned 192.168.1.200 to a LaserJet printer I have and 192.168.1.201 to a Color printer but the .201 doesn't show up in the LAN computer list.

I also don't understand why the router assigned IP address 192.168.1.109 to Taryn-PC when the MAC address for that device has an IP address reserved for 192.168.1.103?.

Anyways, thanks for the offer of help and any advice.

Be sure you are setting Obtain IP addressing Automatically on PCs and devices.
Be sure you are reserving the correct device on the router and saving the settings.
You can do the following at a command line:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns

reboot the PCs and the router.
Check the IP address.
