Apologies as this seems to have been covered before but my issues don't seem to be covered. I get as far as getting the green light and searching for camera but no camera is found. One clue might be that the camera is plugged into a D Link ethernet router. The data light flashes but the status light is orange when all other ports are green

What D-Link router do you own?

• Press and hold the button on the rear of the camera until the blue light turns on.
• Log into your router web UI and navigate to the network section.  You should see the DCS-5010L listed in the connected device table.

Firstly, I really appreciate you getting back.

Taking your instructions in order:

When I press and hold the reset biutton, the blue light never turns but it does when I trelease the button the follwing sequence happens:
red light
then red and blue
then red and blue flash
then they both go out
then the red light come on
then the red turns green

My router is a D Link DGS 1005D

The router web UI is a bit of a mystery to me but I followed instructions and put in my deafualt gateway 192.168.2.1 into my web browser.

I then get a page that seems to be dedicated to my Belkin WiFi router so I guess I am doing something wrong.

Does this mean anything to you. Sorry for my ignorance!

FYI, the DGS 1005D is not a router, rather a network switch.

I got the same results as every other way I have tried it. That applies also to the version that the D link support portal also sent. It is also the same if I try to do it via the mobile phone method.

Is there any merit in pursuing why I was unsuccessful in identifying the network devices as you instructed? I tried using the Windows 8 control panel View network computers and devices but the camera didn't show up there although everything else on my network did.

The only thing that I haven't done that I have been told to is to install the latest firmware but doesn't the pc have to be able to see the camera to do that?

I have had a breakthrough!! Plugging the camera directly into my Belkin Wi Fi router and not via the D Link switch has found the camera.

What model is the D-Link switch?

It is a D Link DGS 1005D.

Hmm...shouldn't be any problems with this switch, unless there maybe some incompatibility between them. Well sounds like for now, you have found the work around.
