Hi!!

Sorry. Its my first post...
But I was wondering if someone have already used Dlink TICKET system ?
Because I submitted a ticket about an issue in DIR-895L DDNS  in 22 May, but no answer received until now 6 June.
The Ticket staff takes so long to respond ??

Following my issue in DLINK TICKET:

The DDNS feature stops working when the router is not able to resolve the name 'DynDNS.org'.

No idea about the ticket system, never needed official support, but I might be able to help with the problem. Are you using static DNS or DHCP? Do you have DNS relay enabled?

Hello,
Sorry for the delayed answer.

I dont have DNS relay enabled.
I m using static IP in my broadband connection (I have a DSL modem from DLINK as well...).

My broadband IP is supplied by my internet provider

My DDNS (DYNDNS) works properly. But when my router tries to resolve the name DYNDNS.ORG and the connection is not available....the problem starts...The status in DDNS configuration page is "disconnected"...and unless I reboot router or disable and enable ddns settings the router DIR-895L doesnt start the DDNS service again.

Its annoying!! Im very disappointed !!! Its a basic BUG in the system and DLINK do nothing about it!!!

If static IP I assume static DNS. Are you using your ISP's DNS or something else? When it happens when you go Windows key + R > CMD > nslookup DynDNS.org when the problem happens? Can you PC resolve the domain when your router can't?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

The problem is that my connection really drops sometimes. And if in this moment the router DIR-895L tries to resolve name DYNDNS.ORG the DDNS (DIR-895L) does not try to update the name anymore...

What do you  mean "the connection drops"? Can you answer the rest of Furry's questions? What kind of modem do you have? What kind of ISP or who is the ISP?

If the connection to the router goes down, it won't be able to update DDNS. That is normal. If you want to fix it, why does the connection keep going down?

I wont be able to resolve my connection problems. Thats not the point.

When the connection of the router goes down and the router tries to resolve name
DYDDNS.ORG the DDNS feature of the DIR-895L stops working.

THE PROBLEM is when the connection goes up (back to normal) the router DIR-895L doesnt try update DDNS anymore
(unless I reboot the router)

P.S. My modem is a DLink DSL-2500E

Do you have internet if you don't use DDNS or if you have DDNS enable, do you have internet access else where or is our entire access not working?
Do you have PPPoE on the modem or at the 895 router?
If at the router, be sure Always Connected is enabled.

I use DDNS at router DIR-895L because I dont have a static IP (WAN side).
And I use DDNS because I have an FTP server and surveillance IP cameras.

I have PPPOE on the modem DSL-2500E (always connected).
At the router DIR-895L I have Static IP connected to the modem.

The set DIR-895L and DSL-2500E works good. But here in Brazil our internet service provider has many problems and the connection goes down frequently.

When the modem connection goes down, and during this period the router DIR-895L tries to updade DDNS (I set each hour to update), it stops to update. The modem connection goes up and DIR-895L doesnt update DDNS (never more unless I reboot the router)

You need to make sure the DSL modem is in full bridge mode. We believe your modem is acting as a router as well and causing a double NAT condition which would cause problems like this. Make sure the Modem is bridged and let the DIR series router handle the PPPoE connection. Check the user manual for information on how to bridge the modem or ask the ISP for additional help and information regarding bridging the modem. You'll need your PPPoE account user name and PW to enter in to the DIR router so it can authenticate correctly thru the modem to the ISP service.

Yeah, I can test the router handling the PPPOE connection to see if the problem occurs.

But there is a  reason to let my modem handling the PPPOE connection and router with Static IP.
By this way Im able to access the modem web server! If I let the DIR-895L with PPPOE connection I can't access the modem (unless I change the cables... :))

I set the DMZ IP in modem settings to my DIR-895L router. So my Port Forwarding Configs remains in DIR-895L!

I dont believe that is a double NAT condition. This problem only happens during the connection down.

I still believe that is a basic BUG in DIR-895L (easily reproduced by the way)!!

The problem is the double NAT condition.

Hopefully using DMZ on the most will help.

This is funny. one of my issues previously was that DDNS would update every minute even though the timeout could only be set on a per hourly basis. I received a modified firmware from d-link which resolved this issue and more...

We  believe this issue is related to having a double NAT condition. This issue was reviewed by D-Link and is not a FW issue.
And what do you mean my resolved this issue and "more"? What more did you noticed about this build you have?

So why not bridge the SIP modem and find out. We believe the problem you have with this is the double NAT condition. Can even try the modems DMZ as well for the 895L router.

Seems like the DDNS feature can't get thru to the DDNS service due to this double NAT condition.

Try this BETA firmware. It is also version 1.13B03 but it will fix the DDNS refreshing every minute.

If DDNS doesn't work, most likely it is the double-NAT issue. Either bridge your modem or connect directly to your modem/router bypassing the 895L and it will probably work. If not, double check your DDNS account info.

Try the BETA firmware to cut down on the excessive DDNS refreshing. Keep us updated on your results.

And please bridge that modem. Double NAT contributes to problematic issues seen when this condition exists. It's recommended to keep and maintain a single NAT condition if at all possible. While some may not, if the modem can't be bridged, the use the Modems DMZ for the external router and this will help with problematic connection issues while in a double NAT configuration. This would be an alternative solution for modem/router combo units that can't be fully bridged.

Yeah!! Problem solved: I bought a TP-Link Archer C3200 and I use Static IP with DDNS perfectly!

So same configuration doesn't work on the 895L?

Was the ISP modem ever bridged fully with the 895L?

And did you test the Beta FW that was offered?

Yeah,

The same configuration didnt work on the 895L.

The ISP modem was fully bridged and 895L worked as PPPOE authentication. This configuration worked fine.

I did test all FW versions.

But now it doesnt matter anymore.
