Title: WARNING: Email function is broken. DCS 2132. Tried gmail. yahoo
Post by: baytest on March 15, 2013, 12:14:27 PM
I have a DCS 932L and I am able to use it fine.
I have set the camera to email to my gmail account with no problems.
Emails sent to my gmail account arrives with no problem.
I also have set it up with FTP to cameraftp.com with no problem as well.

Recently I got the HD 2132L camera to try out. Wanting to get higher resolution snaps.
So far I am seeing this carmera is a bust. The camera's function to email snapshots is broken.
Very disappointed in the DLINK quality control here.

I have tried using various combinations and nothing works so far.
So BEWARE if you are getting this device.

I tried setting up the 2132L with gmail.com as well as with yahoo.com's SMTP servers.
When I click on TEST, I get an error message. No error code given.

These are the settings that I use that WORK on the older 932L camera
===============================================
smtp.gmail.com
Port 465
Select SSL-TLS
Sender email address: foobar@gmail.com  (replace with your actual gmail account)
Receiver email address: foobar@gmail.com  (replace with your actual gmail account)
Username : foobar  (just gmail name without @gmail.com)
===============================================

One more thing. On the 932L it lets me choose 3 settings for SMTP:
Either choose: No,  SSL-TLS, or  STARTTLS

But on the 2132L it only has a checkbox for "This server requires a secure connection (StartTLS)"
So they do not have a choice for SSL-TLS.
Pls add this option to the 2132

I couldn't get yahoo working on my DCS-5222L.

I did get it to work on gmail, but had to use IMAP or something on my account.

Oh, and google ended up blocking me from sending too many emails for false detections lol ;)

Question, on the 5222L are you permitted to chose among these:  No,  SSL-TLS, or  STARTTLS ??????

Yes

check your Outlook emails settings for proper match. The advanced setup page is shown above. If you are using the drop down defaults on the MYDLINK simplified page some are flat out wrong and do not work causing lots of frustration. Make sure you determine the proper ones and input them on the advanced page. This will force a delta on the simplified page. This is another bug with the MYDLINK "system."

This was with the f/w upgrade... I can no longer confirm before stock f/w which sucked on 5222l

Camera Name   DCS-5222L
Time & Date   Sat 2013/3/23 00:37:29
Firmware Version   1.01
Firmware Build Number   1522

Have similar problem on my DCS-5222L.... I setup emails to be sent from my GMAIL account and I can get the test emails to work without problem but nothing is sent out from the camera when motion is detected (and yes the motion detection is defined and enabled).  Went through the usual (hard reset, reinstall firmware, etc.).  I have 2 DCS-7010L and they work just fine using the same email settings:
smtp.gmail.com
port 587
using STARTTLS (I have tried the other options without success)

Should the port be different?  Weird since these exact settings are working perfectly on my two DCS-7010L

I suggest clearing whatever you got on mydlink, com as far as email settings then using the advanced page. When you go back to mydlink.com do not recheck the email box. Like I said, the link between mydlink and the advanced settings is really buggy.

Interesting....

I ftp motion detect setup from mydlink.com and working great.... but switched to advanced..took me a day to figure out why I went from 100 13 seconds FTP videos a day to like 15.
