DGS-1100-08 & 08P VLAN setup
« on: September 21, 2020, 07:01:53 AM »

Hi

I got these managed switches mostly for it POE features. As i got more cameras on the network, I would like to separate the camera network from the main network (web, chat, email), hoping to have better network performance.

I am new on this VLAN, hoping someone would be able to help on the setup.

The main switch is 1100-08, the second one is 1100-08P

1100-08
Boot 1.0.13
FW1.10.039
Protool 20.001.004
Hardware A2

1100-08P
Boot 1.0.2
FW 1.10.027
Protool 2.001.004
Hardware A1

VLAN 1 Main
VLAN 2 Camera

Switch 1 1100-08 (T-Tagged, U-Untagged, N-non member)
VLAN 1 Port 1T 2U 3U 4N 5U 6U 7U 8U
VLAN 2  Port 1T 2N 3N 4U 5N 6T 7T 8N

Port 1 Dlink DIR890L router
Port 2 VLAN 1 Management PC
Port 4 VLAN 2 Management PC
Port 6 VLAN 2 Dlink Camera A
Port 7 VLAN 2 Dlink Camera B
Port 8 Connect to Port 1 of 1100-08P

Switch 2 1100-08P
VLAN 1 Port 1T 2U 3U 4N 5U 6U 7U 8U
VLAN 2 Port 1T 2N 3N 4U 5N 6N 7N 8N

Port 1 connected to Port 8 of 1100-08
Port 4 Dlink camera C

VLAN 1 Mangement PC, I can see both switches, access to internet
VLAN 2 management PC, I can see streaming from Dlink Camera A and B , but Not C, cannot access to internet

The 3 testing  Dlink cameras, I have
CoS enable, VLAN =2 , all other parameter set at 4

I am seeking assistance on the following:

1) How to set up the the VLAN trunk between 2 switches, I think this is the reason why VLAN 2 PC cannot see Dlink Camera C
2) How is it possible to get VLAN 2 PC connect to the internet
3) Dlink camera A, B and C are no longer accessible from mydlink Apps,  how to fix it?

4) I noticed on the switch configuration page, there is a surveillance VLAN setting  solely for Dlink camera. I activated it and saw 3 MAC addresses. But only 2 MAC addresses are my cameras on the network. The 3rd MAC is unknown. I tried the "dynamic forwarding table" and was able to see the 8 dlink cameras identified as "surveillance VLAN" in the table. What is the reason only 2 of the 8 is shown in the surveillance VLAN?

5) With the "dynamic forwarding table", I am not seeing all the smart home devices in it. What could be the reason?

Best Regards

Pat

Does the user manual have any configuration information regarding this?

hi,
The user manual does not have much detail on the application.

The manual only said you can set as T, U or N, no mention on setting trunk VLAN between 2 managed switch.

I used this page from Dlink as reference.

http://businessblog.us.dlink.com/set-up-vlan-web-smart-switch/

I was able to setup the VLAN. I simply wanted to know if it can go beyond as a CLOSED private network.

Something to ask D-Link support about and see. I don't have any experience beyond basic setup.  ;)

Try and keep it simple. Start by configuring every port for be VLAN 1 untagged and VLAN 2 tagged. That includes the ports interconnecting the switches.

Next, change any ports connected to CCTV cameras to be, instead, VLAN 2 untagged.

Configure a router interface on each VLAN, like 192.168.1.1/24 for VLAN 1 and 192.168.2.1/24 for VLAN 2.

Configure a DHCP server on each VLAN accordingly - e.g. a scope with 192.168.1.64-191/24 with a gateway of 192.168.1.1 for VLAN 1, and a scope with 192.168.2.64-191/24 with a gateway of 192.168.2.1 for VLAN 2.

TBH in a switched network (which is every network for the past two decades) a VLAN for CCTV is not necessary. It provides broadcast isolation between CCTV and the rest of the network. Broadcast traffic is unlikely to be material on either. It does however simplify firewall policies for each class of device (CCTV and not CCTV). I would probably just not VLAN in this case and use a single IP subnet for everything.

Hope that helps.
