Problems with DAP-1155
« on: February 10, 2014, 01:37:03 AM »

Hi all,

I'm trying to use a DAP-1155 as a wireless router to connect an android tablet and phone to a Canon MX-454 wireless printer.
I setup the router in access point mode, assigned a SSID and left most of the settings like 'DHCP on' as default. I am not using the router to connect to the internet, as the devices already have their own 3G connections - this is purely to connect to the Canon printer.

Problems I'm having -
- the WPS button doesn't seem to work with the Android devices, but works fine with the printer - even using the PIN method through the router browser software ends in a message saying 'WPS failed' - when I press the button (manual/button setup) nothing happens
- the tablet and the phone see the SSID and connect to it, but no WiFi icon appears in the android status bar as it does when I connect to other access points
- even setting up the whole thing manually without WPS, the Canon Mobile Printing app for android keeps giving the error that the printer is not detected (the printer also connects to the SSID no problem)
- in the Canon app, as soon as I tap on 'detect printer' it gives an immediate error 'WiFi off/turn on WiFi' - but it is on and supposedly 'connected' to the AP - when I use a different access point the app will say 'starting printer search'.... why does it think WiFi is off when it is connected to the D-Link?
- the printer does not support 'ad-hoc' networks, which is the reason for having to setup the DAP-1155
- the power light on the DAP-1155 keeps flashing - not sure why it does that?

Anybody here that has done something similar and made it work?
Do you think the D-Link is faulty?
Are there some additional settings I need to change in the router to talk over WiFi with Android devices?
I've read about changing the encryption type from AES to TKIP, but haven't tried it yet.

Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at sticker under DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
FW Update Process

Wireless Configurations

  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

Try disabling the WiFi security on the DAP to see if the the printer and phones will connect.

Review the User Manual for status indication on the LED blinking. Review the printers Mfr support site information on what the printer supports for security and WiFi modes.
