What do the options in NAT Endpoint Filtering mean?
« on: June 27, 2009, 06:45:40 AM »

I have my firewall enabled (Enable SPI) in my DIR-655.  Further down the config page there are options that I can't seem to grasp with my limited networking knowledge.  I usually just let the defaults carry through but I'd like to know if there is a better way for me.  What do the following mean and how should they be configured?

UDP Endpoint filtering
     - Endpoint Independent
     - Address Restricted (default checked)
     - Port and Address Restricted

TCP Endpoint filtering
     - Endpoint Independent
     - Address Restricted
     - Port and Address Restricted (default checked)

Or try searching on Wikipedia what kind of firewalls exist and how routers implement them.
