Packet Drops. Ping Spikes In-Games

Hello. I use a Hitron Coda-4582 in bridge mode alongside my Dlink router. I have factory reset both several times but the problem still persists. When using the D-link 882 router, my ping would spike/completely disconnect for second quite often but go back to getting normal (around 30) which makes gaming unplayable. When using just the modem, I rarely if ever had any ping spikes and games are playable, however the router is must as it increases my range and speeds across the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. Any solution?

How are you measuring "ping spiking"?

What console/games are you playing?

Do other devices cause internet drops?

Every online game will lose connectivity for a mere second and everything will freeze for a frame. If I were to do something in the game during these moments, it would register seconds later and can result in competitive style games to become unplayable as character models are "lagging". This happens in any game except single player of course. This for all consoles specifically my PC

Use a pingplotter.com and test your ISP service out with a wired PC connected to the modem first. Then test the ping with the router in line with the modem.

Are you gaming wired or wireless with the router?

To test, disable UPnP on the router and enable DMZ to your PC or console and try gaming for a while to see if you still get ping spikes. If you do, there could be some quirk incompatibility with modem and/or ISP (would have to test using Ethernet), or simply something with the WiFi connection/quality.  If not, could be another issue possibly with UPnP on the router.

Definitely disable Smart Connect and do not use QoS.

Does this happen when connecting to the router using Ethernet?

Make sure your modem has latest firmware.

Do you have issues streaming video (netflix/hulu/etc)?
