Having trouble getting my DIR-655 to connect to the internet through the ZyXEL PK5000Z they sent me. I can connect to the Internet when connecting a computer directly to the ZyXEL, but my network is behind the 655 and I cannot get that and the ZyXEL to play nice. Any suggestions or advice are appreciated.

*Update* - After searching the FAQ, I discovered D-Links recommendation to bridge the DSL Modem / D-Link Router. Once accomplished, the two devices play nice with each other.

Seen it where sometimes the router and modem won't reconnect if ON Demand is selected. So ALWAYS ON is preferred.

UPDATE
Service dropped out 2x this week for no apparent reason. CL says their side has no issues. No system or software changes on my end since I got the service up 2 weeks ago. CL currently has me bypassing the D655 and using just their modem/router (identified above) in order to monitor if the pppoe usr and pswd is dropping off the server or their modem.

Is it worth upgrading D655 FW? Could that be an issue? Any help appreciated.

I would look at the logs and see if there are any entries during the time frame the router seems to loose connection.

Review the FW update sticky in this forum before updating FW. Its worth a try. If it happens again, I might presume there is an issue upstream from the router.

No clues in the logs. Service has not been interrupted in the last few days bypassing the D655 and using just their router/modem (zyxel). I'm thinking the best path is to upgrade to FW 1.35NA since I do not have the RevB model.

I have read the upgrade faq and am wondering if there is anything else I should be aware of or any suggestions before I start the upgrade.

Follow the FW update sticky. Since your coming from 1.21NA to 1.35NA, after you do the final factory reset, it would be highly recommended to configure the router from scratch and not load any saved configuration file. If you need any settings from whats currently loaded now, take screen captures of each option that you have currnetly set up and save them or print them off. Let us know how it goes.

Swap cables between the modem and router. Try a new cat 5e if you can.
How old is the ISP modem?

What ISP Speed UP do you pay for?
Try turning off the Automatic UPLink and set a manual 2048 or 4096 speed.
Select type as DSL.

Any chance you can take this router to a different location with a different ISP like a friends house or family house to test?

Turn OFF the check for new FW.

Finally found some time to try these suggestions. Still no luck.

I didn't think the cable was the problem because I could connect to the internet with the zyxel in bridge mode and a laptop configured for pppoe using the same cable that connects the zyxel to the dlink. I swapped it out with a known good cable anyway and still no connection.

The ISP modem is supposed to be brand new. In fact, during one of my conversations, I heard them remark that "it's date was this past March 3rd."

I'm paying for 12mbps.

I assume these suggested changes are found under QOS? I made the changes there with no luck.

Still looking for another location I can take the dlink to...

Each break in the above code indicates a restart by me after making changes. Interestingly, I did get a momentary connection. It started before the UDP packets attack but as you can see, it only lasted 22 seconds.

The UDP packets were from, top to bottom: China, Macedonia, France, Algeria, Latvia, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand.

CenturyLink has, on a couple of occasions, told me to make sure the VPI is set to 0 and the VCI to 32 - I have no idea where to find these.

Try changing the MTU from 1500 to 1496 or 92 found under Setup/Internet/Manual.

There is no VPI settings in the router for DSL connections, if there is, it would be under Setup/Internet/Manual/Connection Type/PPPoE however I don't think there are.

Your NAT settings are restricted or independent under Firewall? Ensure your keeping SPI ON always. Since your getting some traffic from over seas, your router is doing his job by blocking it.

I asked CL what their MTU settings should be, and the router default was already at their recommended rate of 1492.

Yeah, I suspected there was nothing there for VPI / VCI. I've looked everywhere.

NAT settings are:
UDP Endpoint Filtering: Address Restricted
TCP Endpoint Filtering: Port and Address Restricted
SPI is simply a checkbox to enable it.

Try Endpoint Independent for those TCP and UDP.
