My DIR-890L is acting badly
« on: July 25, 2016, 12:50:01 PM »

I noticed that my router is turning off its wireless (the two lights are not on), and indeed, I think the wired internet (to my local net) as well.
For example, I lose the wired connection from my Mac to my Linux server, which hosts my xmpp server.

So I tried updating the 1.08 firmware following your instructions to 1.09. I used Firefox on my Mac.

But after the update, I could no longer set the admin password (the option is gone!). Furthermore, the reset to factory settings did not work. Nor did the reboot.
I manually rebooted. 1.09 is installed. But restoring its saved settings does also not work.
Everything was totally screwed up. there was no 5GHz wifi, for example.
Then I switched to Safari, and all the options reappeared.

Also, restoring my saved settings did not seem to restore my password.

The whole update process is a real pain. Every time you do a factory reset, you have to go through the dumb router setup steps. There should be no need to connect to my-dlink account when i will just have to reset things again. One should be able to skip this and restore saved settings.

Are you following the update process listed here?
 Link> >FW Update Process
This ensure your getting a good installation of the FW file.

If you think the router is in doubt, I would do the following:
Emergency Recovery Mode
I would load v1.09. It's been solid for me and others on here.
If your going to use Mac, use Safari. What I always use on my Mac. Be sure to clear the browser cache BEFORE and AFTER loading the FW file.
Disable any PC security add-ons and software temporarily. Turn OFF ALL other devices or disconnect them from the router accept for 1 wired PC.
After getting the file loaded on it, do one more factory reset, then setup from scratch. After you have got it up and configured, I would go ahead and do a full save configuration to file and input the file name with v109 so you now what version of FW it came from. I do the following: 20160725DIR890LA1v109. Date/RouterModel/Rev/FWversion
