Trouble with Shareport for Mac DIR-890L
« on: October 14, 2015, 06:24:44 AM »

Hi.  I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix a problem I am having.  I hook up a 2TB USB drive to the 3.0 USB on the back of my router and the sharport app sees it fine but it shows that there is only 198MB available and nothing that is on the drive shows up.  All that is on there are some folders with pictures but you can't see them.  The connection works if you copy over something small and it will delete no problem but again...it is a 2TB drive.  Does it have to be formatted a special way or something.  I was hoping to use this as a way to backup my systems.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am at a loss.  The drive is buss powered but as it will allow writing to it I am assuming that all is OK for that.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Drives should be formatted NTFS. Does a smaller size drive work using NTFS aswell?
USB Drives over 500Gb should be externally powered using a power adapter.

Hardware version is A1
Firmware Version 1.08
United States

I reformatted a jump drive that didn't read correctly and low and behold that seems to be the problem.  2TB drive is Mac OS Extended and the jump drive was formatted ExFat.  I will post looking for the max size drives I can run in each of my USB ports on the DIR-890L.  If they will each do 1TB then that would work.  Otherwise may have to look to another solution.  Thanks for the help.

YA, the router can't do ExFat or Journaled. NTFS is the supported for mat.

Enjoy.  ;)
