Title: DIR-890L v1.11 B04 -> DD-WRT?
Post by: sad_panda on July 17, 2018, 08:04:39 AM
Hi Guys,

I've seen the FAQ that says we should avoid 1.20 but that upgrade zip there is a 1.11 B04 firmware that is recommended to upgrade to. Is it safe to go from 1.11B04 -> DD-WRT? I assume the 1.11 B04 has some security fixes, is it applicable if we flash the firmware to DD-WRT?

Right now I'm on 1.10

You can go from v1.10.

The one issue is that with v1.20, it encrypts the FW on the router. If WRT is applied with v1.20, WRT won't load correctly. So I found that going back to v1.1x or prior, WRT will load.

I have not tried recent versions of WRT lately so they may have fixed this load issue going from v1.20 to WRT. Maybe you can ask someone there and see. Loading WRT on v1.10 will work fine.

The D-Link firmware version is irrelevant. DD-WRT rewrites the firmware completely. The only issues with newer D-Link firmware is the added encryption so you cannot load DD-WRT through the web UI. You have to crash recover the router and install the factory-to-ddwrt file, then the DD-WRT firmware.

Features and security fixes from the D-Link firmware DO NOT get applied to the DD-WRT firmware.

Post over on the WRT forums after you get WRT loaded. There is support there.
Enjoy.
