Motorola SB-6141
« on: April 25, 2012, 06:25:46 PM »

Just got this modem from TWC and everything hooked right up with the dgl-4500 just fine.only issue is now when it goes to test the wan speed on boot up it comes up as "aborted did not converge" does anybody know what that means? I did reset the 4500 to default before I hooked up the 6141.

Thanks for any input.

30/5 D3 from TWC.

Router is V2 and came with 1.21 but is updated to 1.23na.

I set everything up from scratch with no loaded config files.

Modem doesn't have any settings other then reboot to factory specs.

I did notice it does say on the UI of the 6141 it has a built in dhcp server.

I wonder if that messes with the 4500's dhcp server?

Sure its a 6141? Must be a new model maybe. Turn off Automatic Uplink as your uplink probably exceeds the 4500s measurement policys.

I replaced a 6580 with the 6141 due to it being a stand alone modem.

the 6580 had the wireless and built in 4 port router.

the 6580 would read the speeds around 5500 under automatic.

and yes the 6141 is brand new from motorola and time warner.it's alot like the 6180.
it does the 8 bonded down"4 here" and 4 bonded up"0 here" and is ipv6 ready and has the built in noise filter and gigibit port.

http://www.motorola.com/Video-Solutions/US-EN/Products-and-Services/Voice-and-Data-Consumer-Premise-Equipment/DOCSIS-Modems-Gateways-and-eMTAs/Cable-Modems/SB6141-US-EN

whatever the "did not converge" thing is, it started with this 6141.

maybe reload firmware? idk.

Try turning Off Automatic Uplink Speed on the 4500.

Probably the process of data and the Automatic Uplink error reporting.

My D-link has measured up 9M with no issues, I think even over 10M once.  Anyway, if you run a speedtest, what are the results?

Are you using the same network cables or new ones?

If you log into your router and go to Basic>internet>manual configure:
What do you have for internet type?
Is primary and secondary DNS servers filled in?
is "use intercasting" checked or unchecked? Try both and test.
What is MTU set at?  should be 1500 for cable.

Under Advanced>Advanced network:
What is your WAN port speed at?

Under Advanced>Game fuel:
What is "connection type" set to?
If auto change to 1000Mbps and test.
If set to 1000Mbps, set to auto and test.

How do you like the 6141 MBS?
How is it working for you?

*Update

*My buddy who installed it also has the 4500 and the same D3 30/5 from Road Runner and he just installed a new 6141 and his 4500 reads the upload at around 5555.

anyways, so atleast I know it's not the modem.I will try some of the setup changes and see what happens.I havn't reloaded the fw yet.

my speeds are around 30/5 on speedtest.net .pingtest  is 30's with a grade A line.the whole network is cat6 with no changes.the dns is set. the wan is auto.the type is cable.mtu is 1500 and unicast is off "I have tested unicast on and off."

I will check back after some more testing I guess.

WAN Port Speed Setting vs Measured Uplink Speed :
100Mb
2538 kbps
1000Mb
2540 kbps
Auto
2536 kbps

Someone else posted that if they set to WAN speed to 100M not 1000M it fixed the measured upload speed, try that out as well a let us know.  If the auto uplink works with WAN set to 100M, I would change to 1000M and just use manual uplink speed at 5120.

So far it's a soild connection. I do get a bit faster ping then the 6580. gaming is flawless "other then my bad aim."

and over on visualware test site I get 97% quality vrs around 80 I was getting on the 6580.

I like it. but I am interested in that 6180 also :)

Theres not much differences between the 6180 and the 6141. The 41 has USB connection, MoCa Filter and different Capture Bandwidth tuners is about it. They both do 8 chl bonding on the Down and 4 on the Up if your ISP supports it.
