Local FTP Configuration
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:41:23 PM »

Hi all!

I recently bought a DCS-9130L and everything is working fine but the FTP local access. The camera has the 1.03 firmware (necessary because after the java update, the live view and the motion detection settings did not work correctly).

I have a Netgear WNDR3400v2 router (firmware version: V1.0.0.38_1.0.61), with a USB pen drive attached to it. I can access without any problems the drive via Windows and FileZilla, but everytime that I put the configuration in the FTP settings on the camera, I always got the "Can not connect to FTP server", "Failed to change directory", or "Testing....." loop once I open the Status tab after each save of the FTP settings.

I have read every single forum post regarding to FTP configurations; I tried using "/", "\", a leading slash before share name, no leading slash before share name, blank, Passive mode On, Passive mode Off, left the username and password blank, the admin account with password of the router, a new random user and password, assigned admin account in the share at router to read and write, remove the account rights to read and write, I mean, I have done every single possible combination of all the settings with no success. Any caveat that I might be missing? I will be greatly thankful for all the help all of you can give me, thanks in advance!

D. Max

Change Log:

-Edit #1; added the "Failed to change directory" FTP Server Test status. 03-10-14, 1:39am (GMT -04:00).

Here are the default settings (but it also doesn't work with any other combination):

Is that the IP address of the router?  192.168.1.1 is typically reserved for the router.  That's the IP address of the FTP storage device?

Yes, that's the IP of the Netgear WNDR3400v2 router, that has the feature of FTP server. Actually if you log to the FTP using a program like FileZilla you can connect to the storage and upload, download and modify files, but the camera never achieved the connection.

Oh, so there's an onboard SD card?
Is there anything else to the path that may be missing?  (e.g. 192.168.1.1/storage/)

I was just looking at the manual for your router. In the router UI, do you have FTP selected for local access? It looks like there are two checkboxes, FTP and FTP Internet.

Also, the manual indicates that local access uses the following name \\readyshare\USB_Storage rather than an IP address. Please take a look at your manual. Without access to the router web UI, it's difficult for me to determine the exact settings. It looks like "USB_Storage" is  a required path name, but I'm not sure.

I can say that FTP does work in the DCS-931L as I use it myself with the latest firmware build.

Did you try using the readyshare string in the DCS-931L?

---
Host Name: \\readyshare\dlinkcam
Port  (Default is 21): 21
User Name: *left blank*
Password: *left blank*
Path: /
Passive Mode: No
---

The status shows "Testing..." forever.

I've done this with a WNDR3700
need to have the path complete the path to the shared folder - looks like in your case it may be
Path =   /shares/dlinkcamera

User Name: *left blank*
Password: *left blank*
Path: /shares/dlinkcam

hmm ...
set the host name to ONLY the router LAN ip, like   192.168.1.1   or whatever - no slashes!
set the Path to   /shares/dlinkcamera
