Which Atheros chipset powers the DWA-556?
« on: December 23, 2010, 10:12:41 PM »

Could someone clarify which chipset the DWA-556 is using? I've seen conflicting information on the net.

It looks like it is:
DWA-552: AR5416+AR2133 chips - essentially, a PCI 3T3R single-band card
DWA-556: AR5418+AR2133 chips - essentially, a PCIe 3T3R single-band card

Base on Atheros' 3T3R implementations:
- (2006) AR5008 (AR5416[PCI]/AR5418[PCIe] + AR2133[3T3R 2.4]/AR5133[3T3R 2.4/5GHz])
- (2007) AR9001 (AR9160 + AR9103[3T3R 2.4]/AR9106[3T3R 2.4/5GHz])
- (2010) AR9380 or AR9390

I was also wondering... are there any implementations of the AR9001 and/or AR93x0 in a PCIe or PCI [not mini] card? Or at least a card with the AR5133/AR9106/AR93x0 5Ghz radios? Is Cisco-Linksys WMP600N the only PCI(e) card to support 5Ghz?

Best,

PS
Also in the news... the support link in the sticky thread is not working at the time of this posting (support.dlink.com isn't working entirely, for the matter)

EDIT: Changed a lot of stuff

The latest atheros version for the AR5008 card is Version 9.2.0.462 WHQL for windows 7 32/64bit dated 22/12/11...

I downloaded and installed the drivers (running the setup.exe in the extracted folder, which win7 seems to have installed fine as looking in device manager, the card (under the section for Networking) seems to be using the atheros driver (which is dated 22/10/11)... here's hoping this doesn't have any more problems *crosses fingers*...
