port fowarding doesn't seem to work
« on: January 06, 2017, 10:11:19 AM »

I have been trying to enable port forwarding on my dsr-250 but it doesn't seem to be working:

Specs: DSR-250 A3
Firmware: 2.11_WW
Region: North America

I want to forward port 32400 to LAN server (specifically a Plex server).  I created the a Custom Service called Plex with the following settings:

Type: TCP
Port Type: Multiple Ports
Source Port: 32400
Destination Port: 32400

I then created a firewall rule with the following settings:

From Zone: INSECURE WAN
To Zone: Secure LAN
Service: Plex
Action: Always Allow
Source Hosts: Any
Log: Never

-Destination NAT Settings
Internal IP Address: LAN ip address of Plex server
Enable Port Forward: Off (not sure if this should be on or off, if I set to on it prompts for "Translate Port Number" which I'm not sure what that would be)
External IP: WAN

Other things to note:  I have turned off UPnP.

Plex can use UPnP but I want to be able to use Plex with Sonos and Sonos requires to have a static port forwarding.

Thanks for your help

Link>Welcome!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Enable Port Forward: Off (not sure if this should be on or off, if I set to on it prompts for "Translate Port Number" which I'm not sure what that would be) I presume this should be enabled and a port number should be used. I would contact the Mfr or Plex and or Sonos to see what should be configured.

Kewl, making sure there's no NAT on the ISP modem.  ::)

Just to note as well UPnP does work so I know port forwarding will work through my cable modem with Plex.  I can access my content outside my network.  However, the Sonos integration does not work with UPnP option so I need to setup a static forward.  Because UPnP works, my assumption is that there is a config issue on the DSR-250.

I would get a hold of Plex and see what they say, maybe Sonos as well. May have a compatibility issue between them however hope that a configuration can be found on the router that works.

Thanks.  Problem is that this isn't just Plex.  I tried just opening a port to another device and it didn't work.  Used several utility web sites to detect if ports were forwarding and they were not.

Are you actively using the port when you are testing for port status? You have to be using the port to get correct status.
