FTP still doesn't work
« on: August 20, 2016, 06:21:22 PM »

I've seen some others post the same issue here with no fix, so I am posting again.

I have spent the last 2 hours trying to get the FTP upload feature of this camera to work with zero success. I am running the latest firmware, 1.03.03.

I am trying to just do the simple upload test and it keeps telling me that it failed without any explanation as to *why* it failed. This is extremely frustrating since this is an advertised feature of this card that is broken right out of the box.

Here are my very simple configuration options:

server: ftp.[myurl].net
login: [myname]
password: [mypass]
path and prefix are blank
send next FTP after: 10
passive mode: tried both on and off, neither works

I've tried prefixing the url with ftp:// which it doesn't allow. I've tried specifying a folder. I've tried manually creating a folder with the date and time as others have suggested and *nothing* works.

Can someone please provide a working FTP site that you know works so that I may test it?

Thanks.

PS: FWIW this is also broken on the DCS-960L as well, but in that case it reports that it succeeded but no image is actually uploaded.

Prefix is for filename modification.

Put in the name of your camera or something... "960L_bedroom_"

I'll try a test later.

Have you tried with a computer on the same network and use an FTP program to access?

I am unsure how to do that, and would prefer not to go down yet *another* rabbit hole because of these cameras. I have three of them and *none* has worked correctly.

Can you please provide an FTP site that you know works so I can test uploading to? Thanks.

Forget it, don't bother. These cameras have been one non stop problem from the beginning. Not a single day has gone by where they have "just worked" without some type of error. I am returning all of them to Amazon. I'm pretty disappointed in D-Link for releasing such a hack. The forums here are evidence that it's not just me, but that every person who buys these has trouble getting them connected, writing to the SD card, viewing them with the app, uploading to FTP and whatever other problems they've listed. It's clear these products are rushed hacks with no serious engineering put into them. I will *never* touch this brand again as long as I live.

Sorry.

anyways, I set up a new user,

ftp server 192.168.1.1   port/ 21
username dlink2630
password  test
path    My_Passport/2630lftp/
filename prefix  2360l_
interval 30 seconds
passive mode : checked

Test FTP successfully.

the FTP site is in my router with attached USB drive.

upload photos

And it put an image in the directory as the TEST. (no more test.txt, with the prefix.)

photo host

So it works.  You must not understand how FTP works and will have this issue across any camera you try to set this up on.

What FW version is currently loaded?
What Mfr and model # main host router are you using?

Seem that the configuration maybe the issue and not the camera themselves as it seems other have been able to get FTP working...
Can check this out as it's for DNS however with this info and RYATs info, you should be able to get them working:

I only hear crickets.   :o

Must have returned the stuff.  Oh well.  Maybe I can get at open box discount.
