Admin login, user rights
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:22:24 AM »

Greetings!

While trying to administer my 601, I've had an issue (several times) whereby I am logged in as an admin, but I retain user permissions.  Restarting my browser and my router fixes nothing.  I've had this happen a few times to me but cannot figure out why it is happening.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?  I am not at the physical location of the router and I need to configure it.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

By "restarting" your router, do you mean a factory reset or just power cycling?

Power cycling.

I am trying to avoid defaulting it.

Try changing the User Password to something different and change the Admin to something different. Been a few people noticing that if the Admin and User passwords are the same, Admin doesn't work right. Let us know if that helps.

A good suggestion except the problem being that I have zero access to change any settings.  Everything is greyed out.

Also, my admin and user passwords are different.

sounds like you need to do a factory reset, then go in and make sure everything its manually setup. If you don't need the guest account, turn it off. Get the router setup 1st.

Good question, you got me on this one. Looks like you can't disable the Guest login.

So, how many characters are in your password? Heard that more than 15 characters seems to exhibit this issue as well.

Darn,
Ok then. Are you using default settings or have you configured the router for custom settings?

Sometimes it's best to just start with a clean slate, factory reset and configure the router to your needs again. Once you have done this, I recommend going to Tools/System and do the Save Configuration to file. This will save what you have set up for future use and should you have to do a factory reset again, do it, then load the Config file to save you time.

I've defaulted several times now.  I have no custom settings other than encrypting my WLAN and a few port forwarding rules.

I'm stumped.

What FW version is currently loaded? Might have to re-load current FW, not the latest, just current.
