Well first I would try to hook up the old netgear back up. Even if the problem didn't occur with the Netgear "then" it may "now". Really sounds like the wireless antenna on the printer is kicking out so we have to rule that our first. If the problem re-occurs after 12hr with the Dlink, then I would say run the Netgear for 24 and see if it happens.

If not, could be a issue with the security and the printer waking from Idle. Check out this thread. Seems similar. Its amazing what Google can find. :-)

"Final update, the printer works and logged in fine this morning. The SSID security settings that work are:
WEP  and also  WPA-PSK [TKIP]"

But to be clear, since this is isolated to one device, its more a printer issue then a router issue. May want to try the Printer's forums if that solution doesn't work.

" That you have to go with WEP or better yet WPA-PSK [TKIP] if your router allows it"  i used wep for more than 1 year. I will try tkip despite i heard aes is better .

Grr i was so close to pass the critical 48 hours on d-link .. but   Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.0.111 (Lexmark print server)
 .
Interesting that http://192.168.0.1/st_wireless.asp Still shows Lexmark connected every 5 seconds at the speed of 5.5 Mbps BUT Lexmark server is down

after wep wpa/wpa2 auto aes, i also tried guest zone wpa only tkip and you can see what happened :(

Interesting using guest zone wpa tkip..  on the printer  i now get NOT CONNECTED and ORANGE  Led .
To recover connection i restarted the router.

Before without guest zone and wep wpa/wpa2 aes  etc g only etc . on the printer  i had CONNECTED and GREEN Led  .
To recover connection tried restarting the router but no chance, i only needed to restart the printer.

Maybe there is a power-save problem not on/only on lexmark printer but also the d-link router.

Interesting  that even despite connection is working when working the print server shows randomly..

I still believe its a compatibility issue with the printer and the encryption. I cant make any other suggestions then those I have. If the other wireless connections work while the connection to the printer goes down, its not specifically a router issue. You might try contacting Lexmark. There are different steps which can be done on the printer to help. Here is a page from their support

i contacted those lexmark i.d.i.o.t.s 5 times! last time they said  to remove completely kaspersky :)) never heard of kaspersky jamming wifi .
Now printer is still conected i see in dlink wifi status 11g  24M  24mbps only??? but can't connect to the printer despite it's connected! Few hours ago 25 mbps alternated with 36 mbps. ALWAYS  SIGNAL IS 100%

if old netgear g works with same security protocol same encryption than is not a printer issue, the problem is the dlink router!

Seems like a possibility that the WiFi on the printer could be dying. Most wireless printers max connect speeds is 54Mb

DYING? on wireless N my lexmark printer goes up to 65 mbps. i chosen G only as you said, i chosen WPA and TKIP as you said. What's the next mathematical combination?

It's clearly a DLINK problem, it's incompatible with Lexmark printer.

Did you connect up the old G router as an AP and see if the printer remains connected there?

I highly doubt the DIR-655 is incompatible with every Lexmark printer. But if you feel that way, buy another router. ::shrug:: We are under no responsibility to fix your problem. We gave you our best advice, if that doesn't work, then I am sorry. Have a good day.

How to connect the old G router as AP?
I only use it as a normal router not connected to internet.
. REMEMBER THAT ALL MY wifi printer problems happen after 1 hours ---max 2 days after entering POWER SAVE.

That is a power saving problem with your printer, not the 655 router.

Review this for your older router:
Turning a router into an AP.

It's a DLINK problem! The NETGEAR router maintains for weeks wifi connection to the LEXMARK printer in POWER SAVE.
