After purchasing this router we began to notice that internet pages would freeze on loading and we were having to consistently refresh pages to make them load.  This was especially true for pages with videos.

I did a speed test and noticed an anomaly.  My old router was a d-link G and I would consistently get up to 6MB download speed with AT&T DSL.  When I do a speed check on the d-link 615 the speed goes up to 3MB and stays there until the end of the test when it quickly moves up to 12MB and the test ends.  It consistently does this on every test.

This behavior is consistent with why pages freeze and some videos will not load.  Before I return this router, is this a known problem and is there a fix or setting I could change?

How is the router connected to the ISP modem?
What ISP modem do you have? Cable or DSL?
Is the ISP modem a stand alone modem or does it have a built in router?

How are you connecting to the router? Wireless or wired?
What wireless modes are you using?

QoS enabled or disabled?

I'm using mode Mixed n and g, but when I change to just n there is no change.  It does the same thing.  QoS is disabled now and no change.

As you know the speed test takes a few seconds.  The first part of the test hangs at about 3MB.  I pay AT&T for 6MB and I was getting that with my previous router.  The test then jumps from 3MB and gives me a high number that's never consistent.  In the last test case I got 42MB.  AT&T DSL does not even support that speed.  The 3rd test speed changes again, but the upload speed is consistently low, around 42KB.

If someone can tell me how to upload screen shots I can upload a couple.

You might try the speed test here to get more details:
http://msiad.visualware.com/myspeed/speedonly.html

Let the test complete and then click on the icon to bring up the graph.  This will show speed and delays vs time.  Their detailed analysis may also be helpful.   It is possible to link to their results to share with others:
http://msiad.visualware.com/myspeed/db/report?id=9746958   Note how Charter's "Powerboost" lasts about 5 seconds, then the delay character changes (this is 12/1 service so I don't complain).

On my system I see a short period of 50ms delay every 2 seconds on my line and the speed bumps up when this occurs, probably because the packets are moving while my ISP causes the delay, then those packets arrive in a clump so it looks like high speed for a short time.  More detail than you get from most speed checks so it may help in understanding how your speed varies during the test period and give some insight into the problem.

Probably best to run speed tests using a wire connection first to keep the number of possible issues to a minimum.

This site provides more consistent results.  These results coincide with what I use to get so I am happy with these results.  Are there any documented setup parameters for AT&T DSL?
