DGL-4500 A1 1.21NA with no issues
« on: August 08, 2009, 04:46:06 PM »

Just wanted to know if it's a hardware problem. What I mean is during the manufacturing of the router did they use different components to cut costs. The reason i ask is I used all the beta firmwares and have not had any problems.

Would you like to trade your working DGL-4500 for one of the two horrible ones I sent back?  :P

No thank you! After reading all the complaints on these forums I guess I'm lucky to have a working unit.

Yes you are fortunate to have a functioning router.  My a1 went to hell when I flashed it to 1.2x.  Now d-link did send me an a2 that came with 1.12 however I did flash it to 1.16b.  I refuse to go any further than that lest I repeat my previous problem.

Hey Puff - How do I get on that program? My only means of media consumption h ere @ home is through the net, and ostensibly, that router. We use PlayOn from my Windows Home Server to catch  up on TV via the Xbox 360's in the house...

With my GF being tech adverse, I can't keep getting calls at work about the 'internet is down again' every other day...

Well the only reason I got a new router was because of Lycan and I was the past person to make the cut for a replacement unit.  Otherwise you have to call d-link up on the phone and talk to them or you can use the steps outlined at dslreports forum which do work.  If I were buying a new router today I believe that I'd be spending money for a higher grade unit that can operate 24/7 without issue instead of another consumer grade router.

I was finally able to solve all the problems I was having with my 45 day old DGL-4500. I sent it back to the seller and got a full refund. One of the reason I bought it was because of the shareport and dual band capability. I was never able to get the shareport working properly and I had a lot of wireless connection problems.
I won't miss talking for hours to a tech in India.
I won't consider or recommend D-Link for any future network needs.
I will buy a wireless printer with part of my refund.
Goodbye D-Link and thanks for waisting my time.  >:(

The only update I have with that is, they are waiting for a response from D-Link.  I did get a call from one of the higher up people today though after trying to get some answers on the phone through 4 calls of being hung up on.  Apparently though...  The guy that did call me back said he was going to find an A2, do some testing with it, and if all goes well.  He stated he'd ship it out to me.  He seemed a bit in a rush to do so though since I'm really unhappy with my whole experience.  Since I'm out of town for the next couple of days, I told him it's no problem if he does some testing on it for a few days before it gets considered for shipping out.  I really hope this guy is sincere in helping me get a working product instead of just wasting my time and money on more crap.

I don't think checking emails and visiting 5 sites a day is considered as "using" the router...and that is about how much the router CAN handle without problems, otherwise you would have noticed something...

I have really tested this router. I have hooked to it a PS3, Xbox 360,Wii, 4 nintendo ds's,a DSi,a PSP, 1 desktop computer, and 2 laptops,oh and VoIP phone service. the two laptops are always downloading and uploading content to the web. I never experienced slowdowns or lockups. And this router has never rebooted on it's own.

Let me guess, shareport also works for you too?
