DGL-4500 questions
« on: January 28, 2010, 06:54:26 AM »

1. Is a certain hardware version better? I have A1 and it seems like a lot of guys with A2 are having better luck with it. I may go buy one with A2 if this is the case.

2. Gamefuel vs QOS. If they are the same when setup right why wouldn't users go with the DIR-825 over the DGL-4500 since you would have simultaneous dual band in the DIR-825?

Unless you're buying second-hand or from someone who has a large stock, I would think all of the new units are delivered with HW:A2. I'm running a HW:A1 FW:1.02, and haven't had any issues with it, but I don't use a number of the features including Gamefuel/QOS.

Well, the DIR-825 doesn't have the OLED display. Although for me, the sticking point is the firmware design. The DGL series firmware is just cleaner than the DIR models I've looked at. I'll admit that I would like simultaneous dual-band, but it isn't compelling if I have to interface with the DIR firmware. It just comes down to personal preference for me. Maybe others as well.

My D-Link Hardware:
DIR-825 HW:B1 FW:2.02NA || DIR-825 HW:A1 FW:1.01 || DGS-1016D HW:C1 || DGL-4500 HW:A1 FW:1.02
DGL-4300 HW:A4 FW:1.9 || DGS-2205 || DGL-4300 HW:A2 FW:1.9 || DGL-4300 HW:A1 FW:1.9

1. I would go with A2 just from past experiences. It seems to be more solid and the Beta firmware Dlink is coming out with appears to be getting better. Im poretty sure someday there will be an official release for the 4500.

2.Yes Gamefuel is AKA QoS. 4500 has an OLED and is black. Some people don't have both 2.4 or 5 ghz running on their local network so they choose I guess? I dont know. I like the 4500 cuz it looks slick! and I dont care for 5Ghz.
