I just purchased a DSM-520 without realizing that it could not natively play the many hundreds of high-definition videos that I have. Nearly all the videos are MP4 AVC (H.264 video and AAC audio). When I attempt to play them, the screen was blank, but the audio sounded fine. I attempted to translate the content to Xvid4 while keeping the audio the same. The problem was, when I tried to play it back on my DSM-520, the audio was totally screwed up. Any idea how to properly translate the files? Here is the file format info, as reported by mediainfo...

BTW, I'm using Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and Avidemux to transcode the files. These original files work excellent on my PS3, but unfortunately not on my new DSM-520.  If I can figure out how to transcode them, I may set up a process to transcode on the fly using mediatomb.

The DSM-750 supports H.264. Since you just purchaed the DSM-520 you may be able to return it and purchase a DSM-750 and forget about trying to translate hundreds of video files. Just a thought.

Yeah I would recommend that as well. You will get support for many more HD file formats as the DSM-520 and if you use Windows Media Center in Vista it can be used as an extender for Windows Media Center on your TV.
