DNR-322L Recording problem
« on: May 27, 2015, 02:47:24 AM »

Hello !

I've just purchased a DNR-322L and i am desperately trying to get it to record from two cameras. Both cameras are D-link DCS-930L. Tried from 2 computers, Windows 8.1/Windows 7, IE 11/Firefox, Java version 8 update 45, Went from firmware 2.10 to 1.4, 1.5, 2.0, no luck.
If i am trying with Firefox i manage to see the cameras but the record button is greyed out for firmware 2.0 and 2.1, and for 1.4,1.5 i get a message to install Microsoft C++ redistributable 2005. Even if i install it from the provided link the message keeps popping up. Modified Java to allow acces to the ip adresses i can open them individually in the browser, connect them to the DNR but it is impossible to get them to record.
If i update the firmware and restore to factory defaults it manages to connect automaticaly to the cameras and start recording for about 30 seconds after which i get the error "all server will be disconnected because virtual memory overruns" and if i try to connect again i get " camera could not be connected because virtual memory overruns". Running 2 WD purple 2 TB hard disk mirrored.

I'm out of ideas so if anyone has seen this type of problem please help!

Thanks in advance !

Seems like this is a problem that D-Link support needs to review. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. You might ask for level 2 or higher support. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Any luck with this?  We have 6 cameras and the 322L and No Luck with the recording function.  I've spent over 3 hours trying to get this to work.  Any information would be appreciated.

Firstly, forget entirely about IE11 on Windows 8 or 64bit Windows 7. If you have Windows 8.1, use the current default installation of Firefox (v38.0.5), with the latest default version of Java. These are, I believe, all 32bit versions unless you specifically install 64bit ones. Then allow Java to uninstall any old versions it finds.

I assume you have used the disk that came with the DNR to do the basic configuration? I also assume that the cameras are on the same LAN (no routers between them and the DNR or you), and that you have fixed their IP addresses (DNR and cameras) in your DHCP server. I don't know if that last step is 100% required, but it certainly removes one possible source of problems.

When you enter the IP address of the DNR322L, you should get a log in screen, followed by the "Live Video" screen that will tell you it needs Java to run. Firefox will pop-up a message, so Allow Java to "run now and remember". Then click on the "playback tab", and repeat the "allow Java to run and remember". Now go to "maintenance>system setup" and check or update the firmware to v2.1, dated 06/12/2014.

With all the above complete, log in to the DNR. You should get the live video screen, the "swirly" that runs as Java loads should happen with no prompts and your configured cameras should be listed in a box on the left hand side. Double click on a camera, you should get the live feed from that camera.

Let me know if it works to this point, then we'll continue!

By the way, this is all assuming you are logged on to your computer as an administrator and you have UAC in the default setting.

Also, as a "just in case we can avoid wasting time", if you have configured your cameras for scheduled recording (either 24/7 or motion based) you CANNOT use the manual record button on the live video screen. The two systems are mutually exclusive. Manual recording is for when you want to watch the screen and start/stop recording by button press, whilst scheduled recording is when you want the DNR to control it.

Just curious, if IE11 on Windows 8 has a compatibility mode setting?

It certainly does, though it has been made less obvious and now resides on the settings menu. However for the DNR it makes no difference. Even if the DNR is explicitly added to the compatibility list (and/or the "add all intranet sites" option is selected), IE still crashes. The D-Link Active-X/C++ 2005 code simply doesn't work with anything 64bit, and D-Link don't seem to be interested in fixing this.

And for a giggle (this isn't related to the OP), yesterday I tried to access the DNR from an iPad (I was "mobile" at the time) using the myDlink+ app. It has almost no functionality (live view only, from memory). Next I'm going to try Virtual Firefox for iPad which apparently runs Java - how they got that past Apples anti-Java police I do not know!
