Speed issues
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:02:42 PM »

Hey all,

I'm on TWC and just got upgraded to Maxx.  My speed should now be 200/20.  TWC gave me a ubee modem and I have my DIR890 as an access point since my modem is in the basement.  Trying to get a better signal in the house.  When I do a speed test right from the modem, I got this

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5284045508

If I test it with a device using the DIR890 I get more like 30/10.  I have seen as good as 85/20.  I updated the firmware hoping that would help but no luck.  Is there anything I can do to improve my speed?  I'm checking with TWC to see if I could put the ubee into bridge mode and try that.

Questions?

Where is the cable coming from the Ubee modem connected on the DIR-890L ?
Did you change the operation mode on the DIR-890L to AP mode?

It's going in the internet port.

I changed it a while back since my modem from TWC is a router too.  I just loaded the new firmware, reset the DIR890, and set it back to AP mode tonight.  Just found out my speed had been increased so just started looking into the issue.

Sounds good.

for troubleshooting purposes, these questions may help stir you in the right direction:

- Is your wireless client connected to the 2.4 or the 5Ghz radio?  5Ghz should have less trouble delivering MAX throughput.
- Is "Smart Connect" enabled? if so, disable it and run a check on the individual radios.
- Have you checked if there are other closed WiFi networks transmitting on the same channel?
- Are the LAN ports of the Modem Gigabit?

just pure curiosity, with the prior speeds, was the bandwidth measurements matched your speeds when testing over Wireless?

Thanks fir checking on me.  Here is the update.

I started thinking after my original post and realized that my switch was only a 10/100 one.  So I upgraded it to a Netgear 24 port gigabit switch.  I also just replaced mu ubee router with a Arris SB6183 modem.  I then reset my DIR890 and configured it as a router and enabled DHCP on it.  I also checked QoS on the router and it is set at 300/300.

To answer your questions, The DIR890 has firmware version 1.09 and I'm in the US.

I just tested from my Surface which can only do wifi and I got 62.86 down and 21.62 up.  My plan is for 200/20.

Any other questions or ideas?

Greg

Can you test a wired PC directly connected to the 890L router?

Is SC enabled, test wireless with it disabled.

I made some changed last night after posting and now I got this from my surface.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5292438964

One of the changes was turning off Smart Connect.  I also changed the QoS so the uplink speed was 20 since that is what I am supposed to get.

Here is from a wired computer plugged into the DIR890.

Looks like I am good now.

Thanks
