Problems playing online.
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:49:13 AM »

Hey everyone!
First of all, I've been asking around on other forums and still haven't got any solution, then I stumbled upon Dlink's forum.

So, the problem I'm having is that I cannot play certain online game (Age of Empires II for example).
And yes, I have opened my ports and assigned them to the right IP, I've even tried putting DMZ on my computer, still didn't work.
I've also removed my antivirus and disabled windows firewall. Is there any other option in the router that I do not know of? Any kind of firewall buil-in? I've tried having SPI on/off, putting both TCP/UDP Endpoint Filtrering to Endpoint Independent.
Maybe there's some kind of bug in the EU 2.0 firewire?

When I plug my computer right into the modem, I can play all of my games without problems, so there's something I have to do in the router, but I've run out of ideas.

PS. I might add that I had the same problem with my previous router and that I've tried installing the game on my laptop and it didn't work so there's nothing in my computer that's causing it. DS
Thanks in advance =)

What ISP Service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?

I live in Sweden, and I have Telia, it's cable (I think). We plug the phone and our modem into seperate ADSL splitters, so I am not really sure if it's DSL or cable.
The modem is stand-alone.

Is there a make and model # on the modem?
Need to confirm that this modem doesn't have a built in router. Having 2 routers can cause connection and gaming issues.

My modem is a D-link 320B and as far as I know, it doesn't have any built-in router or firewall.
This problem is getting frustrating.. Do you have any other ideas?

By the way, I really appreciate your help :)

You can review the gaming and gamefule sticky over on the DGL-4500 forum for some game info. The UI is a bit different however the data works the same on these routers.

Have you set up a static IP address for the game pc that your gaming on?
Is QoS enabled or disabled?
Are you using Advanced DNS Service? DNS relay?

Turn off Advanced DNS Services and enable DNS Relay.

I just looked through the options in my router but I didn't find it, tho I found Dynamic DNS and I know that's not what I was looking for.
Where do I find it?

I found DNS-relay now, but where can I find Advanced DNS ?

Try looking under Setup/Internet/Manual.
If it's not there then you might not have his option.

Hi Laiin,

Check to see if there is a E.U. 2.01 Firmware version.

The U.S. has 2.01NA Firmware version which added ALG back into the Firmware.

Try looking under Setup/Internet/Manual.
If it's not there then you might not have his option.

I went to Setup > Internet > Manual Internet Connection Setup and I only found Internet Connection Type and Dynamic IP (DHCP) Internet Connection Type. I checked if I had the latest firmwire and I had the latest.

Can I find it somewhere else?

I should have read a bit more, I see your using EU FW so you must not be in the U.S.? If so then you don't need to worry about Advanced DNS Service as I believe EU doesn't have this feature. Possible that DNS relay might not be a option either and thats under Setup/Networking.
