Title: New DGL-5500 v1.10B04NA FW Released - Finally
Post by: FurryNutz on September 05, 2013, 08:58:23 AM
Ok, here it is, lots of goodies:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55510.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55510.0)

NOTE: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING A FACTORY RESET BEFORE SENDING THE FW FILE, THEN ONE MORE AFTER SENDING THE FW FILE, THEN SET UP THE ROUTER FROM SCRATCH WITH OUT RE-LOADING ANY SAVED CONFIG FILES. Reason being is that there are many new features and changes to the router and loading a previously saved configuration from file could and might cause problems due to the differences in changes. Please set up the router from scratch after loading the new FW and doing one more factory reset.

Let us know how it works for you.

Please post your experiences here and list your fixes here if any, and I'll adjust the Features Request and Bugs thread.

Lets get crackin people.  ;D

Thank you D-Link.

Ok so I got home to day and after I finished working on my bike and was then able to sit down and upgrade the 5500 to v1.10NA. I downloaded the zip file to my Mac Book Pro OSX 10.7.5.

I used Safari and did a factory reset after saving off the config to file.
I then sent the FW file and let it apply.

I noticed that the Mac Book Pro did not reconnect to the router after the FW applied and only got a self assigned address. I though oh boy, router is bricked.

I then power cycled the router and got a valid IP address and got reconnected to the routers web page.

I went ahead and set up the routers WiFi and some IP reservations and Internet DNS and turned OFF DNS Relay.

I reviewed all the web pages for changes and noticed the new features.

I completed my configuration of the router, saved settings and turned it off. I removed my other DIR series router from the main ISP modem and rebooted the ISP modem. During this time frame I installed the 5500 LAN cabling and powered ON the router.

Using my Mac Book Pro and Safari, FF and Opera. I continued to add 2 xbox IP reservations and review the other router web pages. I started to play with the SB options and let the test run manually to see what speeds it could aquire. 29Mb down and 2.25 up was the result for a 50/2 cable service. I set the default setting back to 100/10 and attempted to save settings and reboot. I noticed that I received a message about a warning that my current browser was not HTML5 compatible and that I should use a browser that could use and display HTML5. At one point in navigating the menus, the 500 Internal Server Error was displayed. After that, the routers web page became inaccessible. I'm currently writing this while the web access to the router is not functional however internet is working. I'm having to power cycle the router each time to gain access to the routers web page when the page can't be access . The web page access on the router seems worse after going online with the 5500 using v1.10NA. Safari, FF and Opera are not accessing the routers web page on my Mac Book Pro using a LAN wired connection. Over all, I haven't seen this kind of behavior on any other router or shipping FW.

Going to factory reset the router and clear it all out and just set up SSID and PW, Time and leave everything else default.

Update, after doing a factory reset and setting up basic settings, still saw router web page in-accessible using Windows 7 x64 and Mac Book Pro OSX 10.7.5.

Upgraded the router to FW 1.10b04. Here is my check list:

1) Useing Toshiba Laptop running Win 8 32 bit
2) Downloaded the new FW using Firefox.
3) unzipped FW ontu desktop
4) Usually save Config file...forgot to do it..oh well. Recommend save config file.
5) Hard reset the router, using button underneath router.
6) Connect laptop to router port1, accessed config page and updated FW using Firefox.
7) wait 240min..................
8) went back in to confirm FW was updated and it was, noticed it only read FW1.10
9) reset within the router software.
10) Manually config ALL settings.
11) router is up and running with current config.

Thus far router is running well and all my config is saved and running. Noticed within FF that the ABE settings is enabled and noticed active download and active upload is missing, but in Safari it is present. I think FF browser cache is just being twonky. Haven't rebooted my Lan machine ....yet.

Active Download Speed :
100.00 Mbps
Active Upload Speed :
10.00 Mbps
Status :
Testing

Furry read your post on your not able access the config page on Safari web browser and having to reboot in order to access config page. I would try a hard reset, button underneath the router and manually set up the router again. If that doesn't do it, are we able to reinstall the latest FW again????

Will run the router thru its paces tomorrow and report back.

PSS- No IP V6 in this update????

Ya I factory reset before and after the update. After experiencing the UI problems I did do another factory reset and then set up SSID, Time and Remote access and SB I set for manual speeds and turned OFF ABE. I left everything else alone. Still not sure what was going on last night. The UI seemed sluggish as well while navigating.

I also notice that if I do anything with SB and save settings and reboot later and try to navigate to a different location, I'm getting a windows that says un-saved settings haven't been applied, OK to continue or cancel.  ???

I played XBL and BO2 last night with the roomie. Had a good time. Saw a couple of Yellow signal status at the beginning however seem to go green signals after a few games in. Overall gaming was great.

I to also noticed that the status was always "testing"-
Active Download Speed :
100.00 Mbps
Active Upload Speed :
10.00 Mbps
Status :
Testing

Not sure what the behavior is supposed to be now. I presume that over time the status should change. I wonder if there is a time frame we should wait for this to complete. The one time I think it did complete for me it found less than what I get for 50/2. Around 20's on the Down. UP was correct at 2Mb.

I might try a re-load of FW using a Windows PC this time for a 2nd run. Just seemed odd that I had problems that I don't usually see using a Mac.  :-\

Still not Wireless Status page for wireless devices that are connected.  :-\

Upgraded the firmware to V1.10 but I have YET to test it on gaming on Xbox 360. Didn't noticed anything on the improvements towards the GUI or interface. I noticed that on the Device Info page shows FIRMWARE Version:  1.10 , 27, Aug, 2013 while the firmware was just released on on 9/4/2013. I've tried soft and hard reboot; still hows that version and date.

So I went back to today and factory reset the 5500, uploaded the v1.10 FW again using IE 10 in Windows 7x32 and factory reset once again after the install. I used the set up wizard to set up that and the WiFi. Let it reboot. I then began to custom set up my setting like I did before using my Mac. Set up custom DNS, turned OFF DNS Relay. Setup some IP reservations for devices being seeing by the router. Set up Remote Management and Time. I rebooted again to save all the settings and get them applied. I noticed that i made a mistake on one of the DNS addresses I input so I corrected that and rebooted once again. After this, the UI was not accessible again.  :-\ I tried from a different Windows 7x64 PC and could not access it. I power cycled the router and apparently I didn't leave it off long enough, still would not access the routers web page after 2 more power cycles. I also saw the 500 Internal Server Error message on one occasion when attempting to access the routers page in IE. However I did have internet access. I looked and thought, I wonder if my 250Gb USB drive connected to the router could be an issue. So I unplugged it and rebooted the router. Finally got access. I continued to reserve more IP addresses and review the various pages navigating in and out of them.

I notice that Filter is also displaying a Un-Saved Configurations message when navigating away from that option, even when I didn't change anything.

Also during the setup wizard setting up SB and it doing it's speed test, its only getting 7Mb down and 2Mb on the up. I confirmed this by running a wired LAN speedtest.net on my Mac:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2949932797.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2949932797)

I then disabled ABE and input 100.00/10.00, saved settings and rebooted then restested speedtest.net:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2949943502.png) (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2949943502)
Seems that SB and ABE is not correctly getting accurate speeds results. So ABE is disabled again for me.

I'm curious if anyone has a USB drive connected to the 5500 and Media Server enabled and has seen any router web page crashing, not accessbile or 500 Internet Server Error experiences? Please let us know. I hope I'm not the only one. I'll try a different USB drive as well.

So I pulled out my DGL-5500 earlier today and put back my DIR-857.  The DIR-857 works a lot better for me regarding speed and wireless strength/performance.  Not sure why.  I have the settings the same way.  I then saw your post and decided to give the DGL-5500 a shot with the new firmware.  I followed your steps of resetting the router, applying the new FW, reapplying all the settings manually, rebooting, etc.

I have IE10 in Windows7x64.  I didn't have any issues with my browser as Fuzzy described.  I do not have a HDD connected.

In all honesty, I am still having the performance issues on my Wireless using the DGL-5500.  It is almost unusable on my 2.4Ghz band (I have 100MB/20MB service but speedtest was showing <1MB/1MB on wireless 2.4GHz).  The 5Ghz band seems to be ok but still no where getting my LAN speeds.  I also did not get accurate measurements using their speed test in the SB page.  I tried with ABE on and without.  It is better without when using SB for me.  Not any different from old FW unfortunately.

I am not sure why this router's performance is so bad for me compared to the DIR-857.  I really like the idea of SB on the DGL-5500.  I was hoping the new FW 1.10 would have fixed some of these performance issues, but it doesn't seem to have really addressed any of that stuff.

Another report in regards to the XBOX 360. I have it connected to the 2.4ghz , ABE off and have been gaming using GOW Judgement. Game play was great no lag what so ever. It played possibly better with ABE off and was just the same with FW 1.01.

Rest of my wireless clients have been good since I turned ABE off. Don't know why ABE interfers with band with speed, just can't figure it out...whatever, works great when its off.

Just wish they could have increased the output on the 5ghz range, would have been nice.

Still happy with the performance overall of this router ;D

Battlefield 3 PC via ethernet, with 1-2 rokus streaming at 1080p over 2.4 wifi.

Just got done playing.  It was very smooth.  Did not notice any lag or loss. To me, the set up interface still is not as refined as I would expect.

One thing I will see is on the previous firmware after about 20 days with no reboot, the router started to get a bit jittery.  I could not tell if it was tweaking with bandwidth, but the log kept every minute giving out a WPA handshake.  It was quite odd and all went away with a reboot.  But is was definitely having some kind of issue.

It still sees Battfield 3 PC as WEB traffic.  This does need to get resolved.

Been noticing a couple of issues since the update.

1.  My cell phones sometimes cannot see the network (2.4).  There are other 2.4 devices active in the same area.  I end up making my cell phone forget then re key in the info and they are right back on.

2.  On occasion the router feels laggy over wifi 2.4.  When I run a wireless speed test over 2.4 from my Nexus 7, the speeds are all over the place.  It is as though the qualcomm chip is having an error or latency or bugged out.  It takes one or 2 reboots of the router to clear this.   I confirm it is clear by running the same speed test and it is smooth and solid with the download and upload speeds.  It is annoying to say the least.

3.  The dlinkrouter.local address becomes unavailable on a regular basis.  A router reboot is required.

4.  Logging into the router, I cannot see my network at all. Screen is blank.  This has happened only a couple of times.

5.  Streamboost needs to update for a lot more games and programs.  Key games and programs are getting placed into general traffic (Battlefield 3 and team speak 50% of the time gets dumped into web traffic).

The last thing is Dlink needs to move fast.  In a bit, ASUS will have one of the most powerful routers on the market, at the same price point.  And ASUS wants market share so I will guarantee, they will update their top end router very quickly and frequently.

I have the same issues as DaKon did. I want to suggest that D-link should consider more about their Priority page. It is unsuitable for the network that has many clients. Besides, the router logs itself out very fast, so sometimes it is hard if one want to monitor their network activities.

Btw, I totally agree with the last statement. I paid $200 for the Streamboost router, so D-link needs to put more efforts on the heart of their router, which is the firmware. They need to update it more frequent with bug fixed and more features to attract more consumers.

Do you two have any USB drives connected to the USB port??  ???
What browser are you using to access the router?

@zbeyuz - What region are you located?
What wireless neighbors do you have near by? How many?

After updating FW, both wireless have been stable for me.
I'll reconnect my 5500 and see if I notice any issue. I'll do some gaming with my xbox on 2.4Ghz. Granted there are only a few other Wifi nieghbors in my area and I also use manual channels on my routers.

As for FW updates and frequency, I don't agree with this and rather have the engineers and developers take there time in making changes, fixing what needs to be fixed and properly testing the fixes and other issues, then rushing to attempt to just fofill a few users complaints about problem that may or may not be FW related.

Everyone needs to show some patience and let D-Link work out the real problems and issues. If your not willing to be patient then you should probably return the router for a refund and find other alternatives and work better for you.

Hi, I am from Singapore. There are around 11 wireless neighbors near my house.

Btw, those comments are just my personal suggestions in order to make D-link a better. I will wait patiently for the release of a new firmware. Thank FurryNutz :)

I set up my 5500 yesterday and then played several hours on XBL with my 360 connected to the 2.4Ghz radio in the next room over. Had a good time. No disconnections or anything. Using default settings for Auto Channel and Bandwidth. HT20/40 Co-existence is disabled as I only run single N mode, WPA2/AES only. I feel the range could be improved as my Mac Book Pro wont connect to it correctly from the living room, 15-20ft down the hall way. I have to put the Mac in a special position to get it to connect. Once it's connected it work however speed is slow.

Be advised for users of this router outside the NA region:

DGL-5500 Is very slow comparing to DGL-4100 and DGL-4300.
Firmware v1.10B04NA, don't help.
I i notice a very strange configuration on DGL-5500. I can't enter more the 10 MAC address  filter rules.
As for DGL-4100 and DGL-4300 i could enter up to 24 MAC rules and maybe even more.
Missing a lot from configuration on DGL-5500(IVP6...).
I don't really like new the DGL-5500 router!!!
AS a gaming longe router, it very weak and slow!!!
For 200$, i aim very disappointed!!!
Hope D-link Take those troubles seriously and provide us with a rock stable firmware soon?
Because for now my old DGL-4300 is 10 time bether then the DGL-5500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried the new beta fw yet? Biuld 10?
This router has new technology that may not work well with other features we are used to seeing on other model routers could be one reason. We've already created a list if items we'd like to see added anx or fixed. DLink is aware of all of this aswell and in time fixes will be coming and features may or may not be added, depending on the technical details.

The 4500 was a great router to however still had its limits too and was $200 when it came out.

If your not happy with this router, i would recommend returning it for something that works better for you.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Yes i have tried beta FW. I can't return DGL-5500 because store will charge me all most 50$ for shipping and restoring feed.  After all most 3 month ove produc realess, Dlink still on beta verson.  Unfortunaly  this beta version is more then 1 month old. This router seam tohave potential, but nead a solid firmware.

The beta version was just posted friday and is not a month old. Try the newer beta.
What region are you located?

Any status on this?

I think Dlink took down DGL-5500 v1.10B04NA FW. It's not showing on the website.
