Obtaining IP address and slow speed problems
« on: March 14, 2019, 01:23:17 PM »

Hey all,

I've Linksys X6200 AC750 Wi-Fi VDSL Modem Router and my recently bought D-Link AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender/Access Point.

I'm facing a "Obtaining IP address and slow speed problems".

Here is what I've done so far as I bought and setuped this dap yesterday

1. I've connected the dap with my PC through the Ethernet cable provided with the dap.
2. Logged in through the dlinkap.local. web interface and setuped through the Wifi method and not the WPS method.
3. I chose to extend the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band as the modem router got dual band, 2.4 and 5 GHz.
4. Everything form there went extremely well until I faced the issue of Obtaining IP address whenever I try to connect any of my family's Samsung mobile phones plus the slow internet connection, I was really suffering to update the twitter app from the Google play store.

N.B. The DAP-1665 is connected wirelessly with my Linksys x6200.

Thanks in advance :)

Warmest regards,
Hesham

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at the sticker under the DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What wireless modes, channels and security settings are you using on the Linksys router?
What is the distance between the DAP and Linksys router?

Hello dear FurryNutz,

Thank you for being concerned about my issue, much appreciated.

Hardware Version: B1    Firmware Version: 2.02

Distance between the DAP and the router is 13 feet.

Hopefully these screenshots will tell you what I've done so far.

I'm able to access the web interface easily via http://dlinkap.local./ so I doubt I need to set an static IP.

- Images removed as requested -

Thank you again sir, much appreciated :)

Please remove the pictures and they disclose your PW for your WiFi which others can see and use.

13 feet maybe too close between the DAP and main host router. Can you move the DAP out to say 30 feet?

What region are you located?

Yes you can try that version of FW.

I've moved the DAP to nearly 25 feet.

I'm located in Egypt, North Africa.

Another off-topic question please if you don't mind, I'm noticing my Samsung S3 smartphone battery is draining once I'm connected to the dap, are you aware of this issue or any possible solutions please ?

Thank you sir :)

Whenever now I try to get my Samsung S3 smartphone connected, I get the following error

- Network disabled because internet connection is slow -

(Before) moving the DAP to that 25 feet, it was connecting nearly easily but know I can't even on the 5 GHz band

Now also, even when the mobile is closely near the dap, it can't get connected.

Whats changed since you last accessed it?

Can you access the DAPs IP address it gets from the main host router?

1. Nothing changed since I last accessed it, just moved it to be more far from the router.

2. I don't know how to do this sir, if you mean http://192.168.1.50/ or http://192.168.0.50/ then no, same issue.

I was thinking about something, maybe the dap is in a deadzone now so it can't communicate with the router anymore which explains the slow internet connection on my S3 being unable to obtain an IP, so normally now the dap is -practically- not there anymore, what do you think sir ?

I guess the problem is solved.

I was connecting to the dap and not the router, why shall I connect to the dap and leave the router, the dap (current) function is repeater, in other words, in the repater mode and not in AP (Access Point) mode and the router Wi-Fi is repeated and strengthened, so everything is running as it should be.

This following YouTube video showed me my mistake, it's from D-Link India

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3nkZAkcoJk

The dap is working flawlessly and I've upgraded to the latest firmware found here https://support.dlink.com/productinfo.aspx?m=DAP-1665

Thank you so much dear FurryNutz, extremely appreciated sir.

Your replies at this topic (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59973.0) and here have helped me a lot, thank you so much :)

Wish you all the best,
Hesham

Ah ok. I should have asked what mode you had it working in.

Glad you got it working better and it's working well. E
Enjoy.  ;)
