What are all the options I have to connect to my USB drive that I may not already know?  

The SharePort Web Access is a very poor way to interact with the data on the drive (other than being fast to retrieve).  I also have to put my browser in compatibility mode just to make it slightly usable.  I actually prefer the SharePort app more (which I was able to use with my DIR-655) and I am certainly not a fan of that either.  

There is SharePort Mobile but I can only get that from Google Play for my tablet and they are very restrictive on what devices you can install on.  I know my device can use some apps that I was unable to get from them but could install and use from GetJar or Amazon.  Also, what is the point of spending all this effort on a mobile app if its a pain just to put stuff out there from my PC for the mobile devices to use.

I read in the FAQs that you can map a drive for the 827 even though they mentioned it was slow.  It did not seem to work for my 826L but that ability would be pretty sweet.

Is the idea to get people to invest in thier NAS or just switch brands?  I sure hope you can shine some light on this usability.  Sorry if there is already information out there that I missed. Thanks.

Connecting any device via USB to the router is going to require Shareport. If your looking for best ways to file manage or interact with any USB drive connected to the USP port on the any router, it would be best not too. If your looking for quick ways to get and send file and have performance, you really should consider an alternate way of doing that, say a dedicated file server or or pc. Shareport works for it's intended purpose of mainly getting and sharing files in a limited way. Using it for large data xfers and constant managing and manipulation of files is probably not the most efficient way. Using printers and doing small tasks is what Shareport is best at. Use the USB port for printers and items that you don't need to interact with very often.

I assumed by D-Link touting all this wireless accessibility to videos, music and photos that it also meant it would be easy from some device to put all those consumables out there.  I mean if it is easy from a SharePort Mobile app, why couldn't it be easy from a full blown PC?  I am not even aware that this router has a working SharePort for the PC.  

Also, I am not expecting blazing performance, just the ability to do things easily and if I could get the USB 2.0 speed, that would just be icing on the cake.  I can't be the only one that thinks this is just a bit silly that a new router still cannot make it easy to connect to a USB storage device.  

Should I just be expecting subpar or should I expect someone is actually going to listen to what we post on these forums and try to make things better?

I do appreciate that this router seems to have better range than my DIR-655 though.  Thanks.

There are routers out there with USB 3.0.
