Cameras temporarily stop sending to FTP server
« on: January 06, 2016, 10:56:24 AM »

Hey
I just bought 4 D-Link 930 cameras, they are connected to an android hotspot that hosts an FTP server. They are set to send 2 pictues per second to the server.

The problem is that the cameras send for a while, but then may go 1-10 minutes without sending anything. This happens very often, and a lot of information is lost. Out of the 4 cameras there's nearly always one that is not sending and sometimes none are sending.

It seems highly erratic and they suddenly begin working again, but it always stops later on.

I know that they are taking pics because i can see them on the URL, but they really do seem to stop sending them.
I don't think its the hotspot because they do the same thing on my router. The hotspot seems fine and is very quick. I tried 3 hotspots and it happens on all of them.

Is there anything i can do to improve their performance? Can i fetch the images from the URL using Java? I tried to fetch the stream and it did not work.
Could some sort of LAN email server help?

Do the cameras have some sort of periodic refresh feature? They seem to be a bit synchronized when they begin to send again, but they still stop erratically.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com

Thank you.

The cam's hardware is B1. The firmware version is 2.01.03 (2015-02-03)
I am just below El Paso, Tx

There is no router, i have an android device that creates its own Wi-Fi network, it acts as an access point and the cameras send the pictures directly to the phone's IP (that is also the gateway)

I am fairly sure the Android hotspot is not the problem, but i could try it on my router again to check ...

I tried enabling Upnp and here doesnt seem to be an improvement yet but im monitoring them.

Keeps us posted. I'm curious if the Android could be a possible cause and stopping the data flow maybe.

A good test would be to try with your router if you have one.

Im gonna try it with the LAN router next.

I dont think its the android because it doesn't have a cellular connection, its a tablet like device.
I will also try it on another android device.

Is this problem common at all?

Possible that the Android is getting bogged down?

Let us know if it happens on the router.

I reduced the FPS from 2 to 1 and the situation vastly improved, the maximum down time went from 10 minutes to 20 seconds.

It still misses a lot of frames tho, it has periods of OK performance and then a 6-20 second loss.

I have not tried the router yet, but i strongly don't think its the android...
I have not tested it because unfortunately the router is most likely not viable for what im trying to do, so if it doesn't work on the droids im in trouble anyways  X_x

I may try this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXbRSkD87Uo) because i have a suspicion that the strength of the signal is playing a part in the problem.

Its possible that even with 1 FPS it will be fine as long as i doesn't have huge losses tho.

edit: im gonna try that fix later on because there definitely seems to be some sort of interference that might be messing with the already weak signal

Some other weird things happen, like 2 specific cameras recovering their streams at the same second.
