I still can use only the 14311 firmware from dir-615 e1, while I have the e4 router. Any of the native firmwares don't connect to L2TP, and the current drops connection sometimes, and I have to reboot the router to restore it. Need help!

Have you tried ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/12-24-10-r15962/dlink-dir615e4/dir615e4-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin ? Flash from emergency room.

I have D3 revision with 4.12 firmware and I am not satisfied with the wireless signal.
I have one question: If I use dd-wrt firmware the wireless will work better (better signal)?

Thank you!

I think so, yes. But I can't guarantee. It really depends on your environment, wall composition, thickness and that sort of thing. There are a few things to try, like changing the wireless channel to various settings. Maybe you're in a wireless crowded area where multiple routers use the same channel. That would cause poor performance. Also set the bandwidth to 40 Hz, so you can get double rate from the two antennas.

One thing's certain though. With DD-WRT you will not get the wireless disconnects lots of people experience with the factory firmware.

So far all i have done is change the router username and password, and setup the WPA2 personal security. Is there anything else i should do?

I recommend Mixed mode with WPA2 Personal with AES (not TKIP). You can also set static dhcp leases and port forwarding if you know what those are or need them. Otherwise, you can just use it with default settings. Nothing else except the wireless security is critically important.

I'm using Win 7 .... try this..

1.  open control panel
2.  open "network and sharing" in the control panel
3.  Select "Manage network connections".
4.  Click "local area connection".
5.  A dialog box will pop up and click on "properties".
6.  Select "internet protocol version 4"
7.  select on "use the following ip address"
8.  enter the IP address
9.  Click ok -- ok -- ok...  Done!!

hope this helps...

Thanks for the help, guys! I got the white page with the browse and upload button this time. However, when I tried to send the d-link firmware that I downloaded, it said "problem loading page" after about a minute.

I definitely downloaded the right firmware for my particular 615 router. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm using Firefox, btw.

@dowant

What revision (H/W Ver.) is your router? Also, try the upload with Internet Explorer.

Tried it with IE. Didn't work the first time (stopped halfway) but worked the second time! And my laptop's internet is working again! :D

dd wrt just wasn't for me unfortunately. Thanks, though.

I have a 615 with HW E3 and FW 5.10.
I can't flash via the FW upgrade window.
When I user the ER web I can't always get the white page with the browse / send button.
Plus my white page says something about language lab.
When using IE  when I press send I get a error screen and I never see anything that shows that anything completed.
When I use Sea Monkey / Mozilla I have the same problem with always getting the white page.
When I press send it sits and says loading, but 10 minutes later and it's still loading. I never see any flashing on the wired port or the PC NIC card.

Do I need to set up a wired port on the 615?  Do you use the internet port and use a crossover cable?

Also I need to hold the reset button in for 15 seconds when booting. Anything less and the unit comes up in regular mode ( power led is on solid)

This 615 has been dropping every day and I'm tired of power resetting it.
This was a Christmas present and I want to try  DD-WRT before i toss this POS.

@cog4030

The error you get when trying to upload via both the normal D-Link interface and the ER would be helpful. The latest build for your revision is:  ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/12-24-10-r15962/dlink-dir615e3/dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin

Here are some pointers for flashing from the ER:

- Always use a WIRED connection when doing it. Connect the cable to one of the LAN ports (preferably the first) and remove all others (except power). No crossover required.
- You need to manually set your network card IP to 192.168.0.2
- After the flashing is done (seconds reach zero) set your network adapter to automatic obtain IP again and access 192.168.1.1 inside the browser.

More detailed instructions on how to access the ER are on in this guide (first post).

I have been FTPing the file to my PC and then browse to it or do I need a internet connection to the 615 and ftp the file directly ?

I've read through this entire thread a few times to see if I'm missing something.

I change the static address (192.168.0.2 ) and mask. Do I also need to enter the default GW ??

As I said I never see any clock or indicator showing the download status.

I'll try it again tonight and make better notes of the error's I receive.

I can connect fine the normal way ( 192.168.0.1 ) to the web interface
But when I power on the router while holding the reset button in until the yellow power light flashes I can't. IPCONFIG shows my pc address as 192.168.0.2
I can't ping the 192.168.0.1 address.
The router is back to the default config.

Awesome, I just updated my router to dd-wrt and it is working much better. No more reconnecting my PC all the time after the connection drops

Hi to all.
I have a D-Link Dir-615 Rev. D3 - Firmware 4.00 and i want to update to DD-WRT firmware.
I have a few misunderstandings and i need some help.

If i can not succeed installing DD-WRT firmware or i am not fully satisfied whit it, i probably want to reinstall my original D-Link firmware.
But i can not find a firmware for D-Link Dir-615 Rev. D3. I tried on D-Link site i found only this: http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Product_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLTechProduct&cid=1197319391320&p=1197318962293&packedargs=QuickLinksParentID%3D1197318962293%26locale%3D1195806691854&pagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLWrapper
There is nothing for Revision D3. What can i do?

If i successfully install DD-WRT firmware, is it possible after that to reinstall the original D-Link firmware, (supposing i find the firmware file that i need)?

Thanks in advance.

@ciocio2002

The latest version for the DIR-615 Rev. D firmware is 4.13 and can be obtained from here: ftp://ftp.dlink.cz/dir/dir-615/driver_software/DIR-615_fw_revD_4-13B01_all_en_20101201.zip

Latest DD-WRT build for DIR-615 Rev. D is available here: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/12-24-10-r15962/dlink-dir615d/dlink-dir615d-factory-webflash.bin

As for your second question, yes, you can flash the factory firmware back if you don't like DD-WRT. You need to do it from the emergency room, which is basically just a white Web page with an upload button.

Instructions on how to access the Emergency Room are provided in the first post (the guide). Hope it helps.
