Title: MyDlink Lite crashes on Windows Phone 8.1
Post by: PegaSus2k17 on April 15, 2017, 04:32:42 AM
My issue looks a lot like this one "http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66578.0" but I'm using Windows Phone 8.1 instead. I've got a spare phone with Windows 8 as well, and it's crashing also. Anyone else having this problem? It seems to crash after you log in to MyDLink. Such a shame :(

Both phones are a Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE.

Oh more people with the same problem:

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the app?

And did it work before or are you a new user?

Hi.

Tried re-installing it multiple times. Used to work great. Such a shame :(

I'm not sure if Windows phones are supported any more. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I will thanks. It's just ridiculous that it worked before, but suddenly I'm unable to use it. Useless.

The maintenance period should be over now but the problem still remains in WP8.1 and WP10 (been trying with two different phone models)... Is this not a support forum at all or why is it so silent from D-Link's side?

Such a shame :(
indeed!

Thos issue needs phone support review. Did you phone contact D-Link support? There's nothing we can do here in the forum.

Several customers have had the same problem which started at the same time so is it really worthwhile for us all to call the support individually especially when
I contact dlink support twice, but no response...

That's propably true but it seems that even non-immediate actions have not been taken in this case. Or at least I have not seen any announcement about problems with MyDlink Lite on Windows phones that are tried to be solved. :-(

Phone support should have all the pertinent information for Windows phone users.

One could suppose so at least. But let's see... I just created a support case in D-Link SSP and hope someone knowledgeable enough will handle the case.
This is really frustrating situation which has lasted too long already now.

MyDlink Lite crashes immediately after launch on Windows Phone 8.1 and 10. This problem been reported by several users using different phone models so something has happened either in the client or cloud service approximately in the end of March. Please see e.g. http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66652.0

I truly hope being able to post something in the near future... So far this has been ridiculous. If the US phone support is not browsing also forum discussions in order to do their job well and is just answering calls instead it's not too proactice at least.

Been told the MDL services are supported on Windows 8. Not sure about Windows 8.1 though or anything past that.

The maintenance period should be over now but the problem still remains in WP8.1 and WP10 (been trying with two different phone models)... Is this not a support forum at all or why is it so silent from D-Link's side?

It seems you think MDL services should be familiar to us laymen? They aren't but are you suggesting that changes to MDL services were made during the last maintenance period?

What is "familiat"?

Maintenance periods are just that. D-Link does what ever they do during this period to update and I presume do any changes they need for that service.

I was given information the other day about Windows phone support and said Windows 8 was supported. Nothing was said about 8.1 and beyond. So i presume future support will be dependent upon what D-Link does. Again this is something that they need to handled and review. Nothing else we can do here in the forums.

OK. Got it... MDL = MyDLink. Typo above also corrected.
The support strategy you mentioned would be interesting - i.e. still supporting a phone operating system that is not supported by Microsoft anymore and to stop supporting the newer ones... MDL Lite was still working fine in WP10 (and WP8.1) in March. Yes, I know it's just business as usual not to shed money to software development on the more minor platforms.

Anyway support also for Windows Phone was one of the main reasons to us for purchasing several D-Link cameras during last couple of years.

I presume if the app had been working before and now it's, hopefully the issue will be corrected. You'll need to maintain contact with D-Link support to check on progress.

"The solution should be ready by the middle of May. Thanks for your patience."

Planning ahead would have saved D-Link from additional workload...

May have not been something needed to plan ahead for or wasn't an issue until users brought it to there attention. Sounds like it's going to get fixed though. Just a few weeks away. Be patient.  ::)

The time approximate for the repair is even less that the time taken from the manifestation of the problem til taking the corrective measures after an individual user spent first several hours to proove it is a common issue, and then still some more to find out a problem excalation method which woud be more efficient than the phone support who is not even getting back... We should be happy and thankful for this efficiency index.  ;D
