Wireless not working !
« on: July 26, 2017, 09:19:03 AM »

Hello there,

I've bought today a DIR 842. My ISP provides an optical fiber decoder which is also a wireless router so, my 842 gets internet from the Fiber Decoder.
I've changed the IP of the 842 to avoid conflicts. It works on the LAN (a bit slow) and on my Android device when I try to connect it works incredibly slow and I have the message "Internet may not be available". I have checked all configutations, I have checked the firmware, made a hard reset and configured again. Nothing seems to work. Also tried to configure the 842 as an acces point by disabling the DHCP as shown in the official tutorial but still didn't worked. Now I have made another factory reset and I'm looking for advice

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Modem/ONT decoder Mfr. and model # do you have?

Disable QoS on the router.
Try setting manual WAN port speeds, try 1000Mb only.

What wireless modes are you using?

This is not D-Link OEM FW. Where did you get this router from? AN ISP?

What region are you located?
Romania

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Modem/ONT decoder Mfr. and model # do you have?
Huawei EchoLife HG8245H
This is a modem/router. Is it fully bridged and any on board wireless disabled?

Disable QoS on the router.
Disabled by default

Try setting manual WAN port speeds, try 1000Mb only.
Don't know how to do that.

mixed b/g/n for 2.4GHz and mixed a/n/ac for 5Ghz
Try setting single mode G or N on 2.4ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz.

I've got this router from one of the biggest providers in Romani : EMAG.
I don't know the configuration of the huawei router, I will try to disable the wifi but I don't know how to fully bridge.
Changing the modes right now

Ok, then your ISP may need to help you out with this then. Sometimes ISP use D-Link hardware and then they put there own FW on it.

It's one of the biggest hardware provider, not internet provider. I explained wrong, it's a big shop. NOT an ISP !

L.E : Changed the modes, still got the same problem

Ah ok. Understand. However the FW isn't D-Link OEM I believe.

I would ask your ISP to fully bridge the ISP Modem. If it can't be. Then have them help you use the DMZ on the ISP Modem for the DIR router. Have them disable the wireless radios on the ISP Modem as well then see if the DIR series router works any better.

"If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254."
