Title: Cannot change Secondary 5GHz Wi-Fi Channel from auto
Post by: YesThisIs on May 28, 2019, 03:06:51 PM
So i have DIR-890L running latest FW (1.21) Tried to change it from 1.20 but problem continued.

Also tried factory reset, no change.

So my problem is that it won't let me change secondary 5GHz channel from auto to anywhere else. (In my area the channel it is currently is pretty polluted 108)

The Primary 5ghz changes fine, but the secondary only shows blank bellow auto. When i try to change to that blank, it wont change the channel or give me options to change it anywhere else but to auto after saving.

I will attach pictures:

Any tips? Tried this on Windows 10 that is connected to the router with cable. Also tried this with mac and different browsers, no change.

Thanks!

What browser are you using? Try IE11x32, FF or Opera?
Has a factory reset been performed and setup from scratch?

Just checked mine, IE11x32, Disabling Smart Connect, I can select manual channel for ALL radios including the 2ndary 5Ghz which shows channels 149 thru 165 for me.

Thank you! I tried to factory reset, no change.

Also tried to smart connect off, (doesn't even give me the option to change advanced settings.)

Also tried IE on win10, Chrome (on Mac and on windows), Firefox (on Mac and on windows) and safari on Mac. All same results. The primary 5ghz changes fine. Secondary is the issue here.

Any ideas what to try next? All help would be appreciated.

Download v1.21 FW file again and lets apply this file using this process:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)
Use IE11 or FF or Safari browsers for this process.

I tried this, with IE and then FF (Firewall off)

First time with Firefox it just straight got 404'd when i pressed update.

Second time (IE) it gave me upgrade failed. I tried this process again but could not manage to connect my router AT ALL for recovery. (Actually was quite freaked out that i bricked my 250€ router)

After 5 minutes of no-power, it managed to boot up again. Any ideas that i can maybe try other than this?

What region are you located?

And you did set up a static IP address on the PC right?

Sounds like this router is in a bad state.
What happens if you downgrade to v1.20? Just try to apply this via the normal FW update web page on the router.
Can you try one of the v1.11 Security versions?

I believe the secondary is limited to the upper spectrum of channels. I will have a tech check it today.

It is...however the OP isn't seeing these channels on his unit in a browser. They don't show up for some reason. I checked mine last nite and the channels appear.

yeah channels appear on ours too. Gotta click the blue down arrow.

Clear your cache on your browser. Do all other drop-down boxes work? just not that one?

I am from EU (Finland if that matters)
Also did change the static IP address (Followed your steps in the other post)

Here's the picture of it: https://imgur.com/a/nQS8rP0
I can either choose blank (that doesn't change the actual channel) or auto.

I will try another firmware.

Update:
1.10 or 1.10 security variant just would not update. Did give me error "Firmware upgrade failed!" (tried to upgrade from 1.21 and 1.20.)

However, it did let me put 1.20 in it. No change. Still gives me blank.

See if you can get down graded to something lower. There will be some older versions that you can't apply.  ::)

If you have v1.20 loaded, try the recovery process and see if you can load v1.10. Try using IE11x32 or Firefox. Be sure to clear all browser caches before accessing the recovery page. Wired PC for this as well.

That is strange. I looked at our unit here and the channels come on with your settings (802.11ac only and 20/40/80MHz). Possibly since you have the European version, not sure since Wi-Fi channels vary in different regions it is locked to auto. Try selecting other channel width and modes to see if the channels come up.

Also, try a different computer or device. Maybe something quirky but since all the other drop-downs work, probably wont make a difference.

Sorry, i haven't been updating this... (Basically given up)

I tried my Mac, no change.
Tried my Win10, no change.
Tried my another win10 laptop from work, no change.
Tried Firefox, chrome, IE, safari, no change.
Tried to change the transmission power, no change.
Tried changing channel width, no change.
Tried changing 802.11 mode, no change.
Tried to change Visibility status, no change.

Tried 3 computers now and various other FW's. In all respect not going to do that "recovery process" because it's an HUGE pain in the ass. The 5.1GHz works fine, but i cannot change the channel. I just put it in High transmission power and that's it.

But yeah, frustrating and disappointing.

If you come up with SOME thing to try, other than messing with recovery process. (Because i have to remove the router completely out of it's place, wire 5 meter cable, then try it and then put it all back together. It's an huge pain in the ass that takes me about hour to do). Not going to do it. If you have any suggestion other than that i would be pleased to do so, if not. This will be my last D-Link product unfortunately.

Thank you for you help tho! Really appreciate it, and it's not really your fault that i have placed my router in such inconvenient place.

A factory reset needs to be performed on your unit...

Thank you for this suggestion!

Tried that, no change. Running 1.21. (Also tried this with other firmwares, no change)
