Extend WiFi, by connecting DAP-1360's with Ethernet cables?
« on: October 31, 2017, 03:05:07 PM »

I want maximum performance, with the widest range, and hopefully a single wireless network name.

I just bought two DAP-1360's. They are the latest release "F".

I plan on hooking them both up to a network switch, with Ethernet cables to each DAP-1360's LAN port.

One DAP-1360 will be on one side of my home, and the other one on the other side of my home.

There will be overlapping WiFi signals between the two.

I'm confused on how set up the second DAP-1360.

Thanks

Make sure they are both in Access Point mode.

The second one - you can set up using the same wi-fi network name (SSID) and password as the first one but you may want to set different channels on both. Set one to channel 1 and the other to 11 for example. Other than that not much else to set up.

I assume the switch is connected to a router? You may want to assign static IP addresses to the DAP-1360s or set up an IP reservation for both in your router to avoid confusion on which one you are setting up.

The switch does connect to the router.

Good ideas about the channels, and the DHCP ranges.

With one SSID, is it up to the client to use the strongest signal, as I walk around the house?

Yes it will be up to the client device to switch to the best signal in range.
