What region are you located?  Somerset, MA 02726
Has a Factory Reset been performed?  No, reluctant to lose all my settings.
What FW version was previously loaded? v 2.07
What was the reason for updating to v2.10?  New is better than old, I guess. Is the 2.10 FW D-Link published not good?  If so, why was it published?
Was the router working before the update?  Sporadic problems of the same nature

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?  Cable (Comcast)
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?  Motorola SurfBoard SB6121
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? Motorola SB6121
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.  Does not apply.

Thanks for replying.  My replies to your questions are above.  There are no conflicting cordless phones in the house.

I've tried all your suggestions and changed all the settings that you suggested.  I've tried channel 1, 6, 11 and auto select.  Right now, it seems stable on channel one, but I have no hope it will stay connected.  I've turned off wireless encryption too.  But, as you know, the wireless will eventually disconnect for (as you know) unknown reasons.  I think there is a serious problem with D-Link DIR-655 routers since it appears many others have the same problem and all the same suggestions DLink supplies do not seem to fix the problems we are all having with D-Link routers.

Now what?

We are tracking one problem w v2.10. Guest Zone seems to have a problem with some client devices.

Most routers work well out of the box. Most problems users see are in mis-configurations and external environment conditions that effect the router. I have this router and have tested other users routers to ensure the HW is working well with success.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Furry, I located my original install CD.  It did not contain any version of SharePort, because the DIR-655 HW A1 - FW 1.0 did not originally have SharePort.  My FW 1.21 has support for SharePort, but is that only for HW A2?

You might get a hold of DaveVT here on the forums and ask him if SP works for his Rev A 655. He's one of the few I know that has a Rev A model. Not sure if he's using SP right now however I Think he's got the last FW version for Rev As. I don't want to have you update to v1.35 before we can check to see if SP will work with that version. If he recommends updating and SP works with v1.35, then go for it. Ask him first and get his opinion. I only have a Rev B and use SP v4.

Hi again and thanks for the reply.  Since yesterday afternoon, I've lost wireless connection 4 times (3 times while working at home today).  I am now connected via LAN cable at work so I don't lose wireless connectivity.

Please review this: FW Update Process<=I did and followed closely.

Most routers work well out of the box. Most problems users see are in mis-configurations and external environment conditions that effect the router. I have this router and have tested other users routers to ensure the HW is working well with success. <=That doesn't really help my situation.  Seems I'm not alone here.  There seems to be a D-Link issue since many other have the same problems.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? <= Just one or two are sometimes visible.  I've tried all the channels, especially 1, 6, and 11 with the same problem.  As I mentioned, the auto search doesn't work at all (never connects).

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.<=I'll try this when I can.

Can I restore all my settings after a hard reset?  Will the firmware be reset to the original?

Honestly, this is very frustrating for a customer to have to go through all this to resolve a problem.

Do a factory reset then setup the router from scratch.

Factory reset completed and rebuilt from scratch.

The wireless connectivity is now WORSE than it was before!!!  Computers (Vista, 7, and 8) are all connecting and disconnecting randomly.  I'm am wired to the router right now on a Windows 7 machine.  Cannot connect wirelessly!  However, phones are connected.

Also Teamviewer link takes me to a download page to download software.  Who is connecting to me and how?

The Comcast DNS issues link you supplied is a dead link.

Very frustrated!

Update:  The "Enable Channel Scan" was set to enable.  This may have been causing the issue (I've indicated this selection doesn't work for my network).  I have no encryption set-up.  Seems to be up right now.  I will keep pumping wireless connections tonight and tomorrow and then will post an update.   :-\

I'm on channel 6.  The only other network my PC identifies is a wireless G on channel 1.  I'll keep on channel 6 for now.

Do you think encryption has anything to do with this?  Just curious....

Yes, I had WPA2 encryption before all these issues.  I removed it during troubleshooting.

Right now, I'm up for about 2 hours on wireless on channel 6 with several PCs and phones.  My signal is between -50-60 dBm amplitude.  The closest router on channel 6 is at about -90-95 dBm amplitude.  Seems channel 6 is clear.

I'll post tomorrow with an update.

Disconnected again!  :'(  After about 2 hours and 15 minutes, the windows 7 and Vista machine disconnected.  The XP machine stayed connected.  I had to unplug the router to get the network back up.  It is now back up and running.

Here are some of the log entries from just prior to disconnect:

Jan  2 16:40:28 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  473.520000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

Jan  2 16:40:22 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  467.850000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

Jan  2 16:40:04 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  449.450000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

Jan  2 16:40:03 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  448.520000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

Jan  2 16:40:01 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  446.350000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

Jan  2 16:39:58 DIR-655 user.warn kernel: [  443.530000] SHAN=== Chaning for PS state change for type 0 subtype 208

I'm at a loss.  I'm thinking this router is what is known in the router industry as garbage.  I would think D-Link would offer to help me on the phone versus this forum.  I'm not a happy customer.

One thing you can try, disable IPv6 on the 7 and Vista PCs under there networking adapter settings.

If anything, if this is the Rev B router we might try to down grade the FW from 2.10 to 2.03 or .07.

If the XP PC is working and the other 2 are not, I might presume someone on those 2 PCs is not configured write.

Also we might have someone review the routers settings with you using teamviewer. It's a remote control access program that is safe to use with another person.

Ok, well, you could update and see if that helps. Just know that you cant downgrade back to v1.21 after.
